Prescription for Modelling Time in Databases

چکیده

] The prevailing approach to modelling the time dimension in databases is, in one form or another, the use of an explicit representation of time. In this paper we propose a temporal relational model and algebra, based on temporal semantics, to incorporate an implicit time dimension in databases. In temporal semantics, time-varying relations are an indexed collection of ordinary relations, one for each moment in time. A temporal database is modelled by a collection of time-varying relations. Temporal databases are queried using a temporal relational algebra (Tra) which extends the relational algebra point-wise upon the set of natural numbers. We also give examples of time-speciic and time-relative queries, and of combining time-varying data by temporal intersection, union and splicing. Although Tra lacks the ability to explicitly manipulate time, we show how temporal aggregation and when-type queries can be formulated using a technique called \tagging".

Species distribution modelling of invasive alien species; Pterois miles for current distribution and future suitable habitats

The present study aims to predict the potential geographic distribution and future expansion of invasive alien lionfish (Pterois miles) with ecological niche modelling along the Mediterranean Sea. The primary data consisted of occurrence points of P. miles in the Mediterranean and marine climatic data layers were collected from global databases. All the used models run 100% su...

Modelling and extraction of variability in free-text medication prescriptions from an anonymised primary care electronic medical record research database

BACKGROUND Free-text medication prescriptions contain detailed instruction information that is key when preparing drug data for analysis. The objective of this study was to develop a novel model and automated text-mining method to extract detailed structured medication information from free-text prescriptions and explore their variability (e.g. optional dosages) in primary care research databas...

A systematic review of health economic models of opioid agonist therapies in maintenance treatment of non-prescription opioid dependence

BACKGROUND Opioid dependence is a chronic condition with substantial health, economic and social costs. The study objective was to conduct a systematic review of published health-economic models of opioid agonist therapy for non-prescription opioid dependence, to review the different modelling approaches identified, and to inform future modelling studies. METHODS Literature searches were cond...

Modelling Departure Time, Destination and Travel Mode Choices by Using Generalized Nested Logit Model: Discretionary Trips (Research Note)

Despite traditional four-step model is the most prominent model in majority of travel demand analysis, it does not represent the potential correlations within different travel dimensions. As a result, some researches have suggested the use of choice modelling instead. However, most of them have represented travel dimensions individually rather than jointly. This research aims to fill this gap t...
