چکیده

Grain size distribution (sorting) is determined by deposition. It may affect sediment bulk and elastic properties in a non-linear and non-unique way. The quantification of these relations is important for seismic reservoir characterization, especially in geological settings where sand/shale (bimodal) mixtures are present. Below, effective-medium equations are introduced for calculating the porosity and elastic moduli of such bimodal granular mixtures. These equations can be used for theoretical mixing of sand and shale in dispersed or laminar modes and, ultimately, for seismic forward modeling and reservoir characterization. INTRODUCTION AND PROBLEM FORMULATION Grain size and grain size distribution are basic characteristics of sediment texture (Figure 1). They are determined by the depositional history and affect reservoir quality via two of the most important bulk properties–porosity and permeability. They also affect the elastic properties of the sediment. As a result, seismic attributes can be, in principle, interpreted in terms of texture and porosity. Figure 1. Consider a water-saturated section of a Gulf Coast well at a depth of about 900 m (Figure 2). The

An Integrated Geophysical Approach for Porosity and Facies Determination: A Case Study of Tamag Field of Niger Delta Hydrocarbon Province

Petro physics, rock physics and multi-attribute analysis have been employed in an integrated approach to delineate porosity variation across Tamag Field of Niger Delta Basin. Gamma and resistivity logs were employed to identify sand bodies and correlated across the field. Petro physical analysis was undertaken. Rock physics modelling and multi-attribute analysis were carried out. Two hydrocarbo...

etection of reservoir quality using Bayesian seismic inversion

Sorting is a useful predictor for permeability. We show how to invert seismic data for a permeable rock sorting parameter by incorporating a probabilistic rock-physics model with floating grains into a Bayesian seismic inversion code that operates directly on rock-physics variables. The Bayesian prior embeds the coupling between elastic properties, porosity, and the floating-grain sorting param...

The Pore Characteristics of Geopolymer Foam Concrete and Their Impact on the Compressive Strength and Modulus

The pore characteristics of geopolymer foam concretes (GFCs) manufactured in the laboratory with 0–16% foam additions were examined using image analysis (IA) and vacuum water saturation techniques. The pore size distribution, pore shape, and porosity were obtained. The IA method provides a suitable approach to obtain the information of large pores, which are more important in affecting the comp...

Determination of Porosity of Rock Samples, Torrefied Biomass, Activated Carbon and Proppant Sand for Usage in Wastewater Treatment and Simulation of Oil Reservoir Analysis using the Barnes Method and Helium Porosimetry

In industry, the porosity of petrochemical reservoirs is measured frequently by coring and is an important property when trying to determine if a site is appropriate for drilling. Porosity can also be used in waste water treatment in order to determine if a material is ideal for water purification in industrial or residential applications. The purpose of this experiment was to simulate a oil re...

Sorting and Decentralized Price Competition∗

We investigate the role of search frictions in markets with price competition and how it leads to sorting of heterogeneous agents. There are two aspects of value creation: the match-value when two agents actually trade, and the probability of trading governed by the search technology. We show that positive assortative matching obtains when complementarities in the former outweigh complementarit...
