Improving TCP Performance over Multi-Slot GSM

چکیده
In this paper, we examine the effects of TCP over a Multi-Slot GSM testbed as well as improving the performance of TCP using a smart link-level retransmission scheme. The smart link-level retransmission scheme (also known as the Snoop Protocol [1]), which was developed at the University of California in Berkeley, was designed to reduce the number of duplicate acknowledgements from returning to the sender by performing local retransmissions of the lost packets from the cache of TCP packets at the base station before the TCP timeout expires. We conclude with simulated results conducted on the Multi-Slot GSM and a WaveLAN testbeds and found some differences between the testbeds.

GPRS performance estimation in GSM circuit switched services and GPRS shared resource systems
* The project is financially supported by Nokia Research Center, Sonera, Technology Development Center of Finland and Helsinki Telephone Company. AbstractGPRS is designed for transmitting packet data and supposed to take its radio resource from the pool of channels unused by GSM voice services. The number of channels allocated to GPRS is a random variable depending on the voice traffic. In thi...
متن کاملA communication architecture to access data services through GSM
In this paper we present a communication architecture for accessing TCP/IP networks (mainly Internet) through GSM. We exploit the existing and widely used TCP/IP communication architecture, but also consider the specific features of wireless links and GSM networks. Our proposal is based in the indirect model of client/server interaction, where an intermediate element acts as a bridge between GS...

Transmission Control Protocol (TCP) is the dominant reliable transport protocol utilized in the Internet. Improving the performance of TCP associated with the presence of multi-hop is one of the research challenges in wireless mesh networks. Wireless mesh networks have large round trip time variations and these variations are dependent on the number of hops. In wireless mesh network, when conge...

متن کاملTCP performance over GPRS
GPRS is the new packet-oriented data service for GSM. Soon it will be possible to take advantage of the features provided by GPRS for Internet Access like fast connection set-up, volumebased charging and staying on-line for long periods. For non-realtime Internet applications TCP is the applied transport protocol. Often it was suspected that GPRS introduces severe performance degradations for T...
