Hybrid superconducting nanostructures: very low temperature local probing and noise
نویسندگان
چکیده
We review the topic of hybrid superconducting nanostructures by introducing the basic physical concepts and describing recent key experimental results. We discuss the superconductivity nucleation in mesoscopic structures, the vortex lattice imaging in doped diamond films, the superconducting proximity effect, multiple Andreev reflection in Josephson junctions and the electronic micro-cooling in hybrid tunnel junctions. An emphasis is put on very low temperature local probes and noise measurement techniques developed in Grenoble.

Broadband MgB2 Hot-Electron Bolometer THz Mixers operating up to 20K
We discuss performance of submicron size hotelectron bolometer (HEB) mixers made from thin MgB2 superconducting films. With a superconducting transition temperature of 30K, such THz mixers can operate with high sensitivity at temperatures up to 20K. Due to very small dimensions local oscillator (LO) power requirements are rather low. In the intermediate frequency (IF) band of 1-3GHz the double...

We have implemented a new experimental set-up for precise measurements of current fluctuations in three-terminal devices. The system operates at very low temperatures (30 mK) and is equipped with three superconducting quantum interference devices (SQUIDs) as low noise current amplifiers. A SQUID input coil is connected to each terminal of a sample allowing the acquisition of time-dependent curr...

An important step forward for the understanding of high-temperature superconductivity has been the discovery of iron-based superconductors. Among these compounds, iron pnictides could be used for high-field magnet applications, resulting more advantageous over conventional superconductors, due to a high upper critical field as well as its low anisotropy at low temperatures. However, the princip...
متن کاملLength scaling of bandwidth and noise in hot-electron superconducting mixers
Mixing experiments have been performed at frequencies from 4 to 20 GHz on Nb thin-film superconducting hot-electron bolometers varying in length from 0.08 to 3 mm. The intermediate frequency ~IF! bandwidth is found to vary as L, with L the bridge length, for devices shorter than A12 Le2ph'1 mm, with Le2ph the electron-phonon length. The shortest device has an IF bandwidth greater than 6 GHz, th...
متن کاملHeterodyne mixing in diffusion-cooled superconducting aluminum hot- electron bolometers
We present microwave ~30 GHz! measurements on aluminum superconducting hot-electron bolometer ~HEB! mixers. Aluminum HEB mixers have a lower superconducting transition temperature than niobium and niobium nitride devices, and are predicted to have improved sensitivity and require less local oscillator power. The devices studied consist of a narrow superconducting aluminum microbridge with conta...
