Modification of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid movement in bean petioles by light.

چکیده
There have been several reports of light effe-cts on the movement of growth-regulating substances in plants. Shen-Miller and Gordon (6) found that phototropically active blue light decreased the basipetal movement of IAA in Zca coleoptile sections. Similarly, Thornton and Thimann (7) *observed that blue light induced a transient decrease in the basipetal movement of IAA in Avena coleoptile tissues, but that red and far-red 'light were without effect. Naqvi and Gordon (5) found that white light significantly decreased the basipetal transport of IAA in Zea coleoptiles. During a class experiment at the University of East Anglia, England, Professor M. B. Wilkins found that light appeared to reduce the acropetal movement of radioactive 2,4-D in intact bean petioles. This in,vestigation was undertaken to determine whether light affects the movement of 2,4-D in green petiole sections of Phaseolhs nmultifloruis.

The Absorption and Translocation Of 2,4-Dichlorophenoxyacetic Acid by Bean Plants.
The compound 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) and similar compounds applied locally to aerial parts of plantsmay cause responses in plant parts distant from the place of treatment. Such responses have been used by several investigators as a measure of the translocation of 2,4-D. These studies have produced an important body of evidence on growth-regulator translocation. It has been report...

Measurements were made of the transport of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid-(14)C (2,4-D) through segments cut from the region of the distal abscission zone in young and old primary leaves of Phaseolus vulgaris L. When old leaves were used basipetal transport of 2,4-D in segments including pulvinar tissue, abscission zone, and petiolar tissue was much less than in wholly petiolar segments. In bot...

Accumulated evidence has indicated that the physiological effect of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) in plants may function through its effect on processes of respiration (1, 2, 3, 4, 5) as well as on photosynthesis (6). Since the precise mechanism by which plant cells respond to 2,4-D has yet to be elucidated, and the participation of phosphorus in biological oxidation-reduction reaction...
