Optional Shift, and Discrimination Learning with Redundant Relevant Dimensions: Predictions of an Attentional Model M

چکیده

The Zeaman-House-Lovejoy (ZHL) model for discrimination learning involves interacting perceptual and response learning processes, with rate parameters v and 0, respectively. This paper describes a number of predictions of the ZHL model for the optional shift paradigm. Kendler and Kendler showed that the proportion of subjects who learn an optional shift as a reversal increases with subject’s age, and Campione and others have argued that this trend may reflect developmental variation in parameters Ilike q~ and 0. Our main result is a formula specifying the dependence of reversal probability on pl and 0 for the ZHL model.

Discrimination learning and attentional set formation in a mouse model of Fragile X.

Fragile X Syndrome is the most prevalent genetic cause of mental retardation. Selective deficits in executive function, including inhibitory control and attention, are core features of the disorder. In humans, Fragile X results from a trinucleotide repeat in the Fmr1 gene that renders it functionally silent and has been modeled in mice by targeted deletion of the Fmr1 gene. Fmr1 knockout (KO) m...

Contrasting cortical and subcortical activations produced by attentional-set shifting and reversal learning in humans.

Much evidence suggests that lesions of the prefrontal cortex (PFC) produce marked impairments in the ability of subjects to shift cognitive set, as exemplified by performance of the Wisconsin Card Sorting Test (WCST). However, studies with humans and experimental primates have suggested that damage to different regions of PFC induce dissociable impairments in two forms of shift learning implici...

Preschoolers out of adults: discriminative learning with a cognitive load.

This paper explores novel predictions from the spontaneous overtraining interpretation of human discrimination shift learning (Sirois & Shultz, 1998a). Results from six experiments where adults perform a discrimination shift task with or without a cognitive distractor are reported. In three experiments with a concurrent distractor task (Experiments 1A, 2A, and 3A), performance of adults is comp...

Benefits of fading in perceptual learning are driven by more than dimensional attention

Individuals learn to classify percepts effectively when the task is initially easy and then gradually increases in difficulty. Some suggest that this is because easy-to-discriminate events help learners focus attention on discrimination-relevant dimensions. Here, we tested whether such attentional-spotlighting accounts are sufficient to explain easy-to-hard effects in auditory perceptual learni...

AN M/G/1 QUEUE WITH REGULAR AND OPTIONAL PHASE VACATION AND WITH STATE DEPENDENT ARRIVAL RATE

We consider an M/G/1 queue with regular and optional phase vacation and withstate dependent arrival rate. The vacation policy is after completion of service if there are no customers in the system, the server takes vacation consisting of K -phases, each phase is generally distributed. Here the first phase is compulsory where as the other phases are optional. For this model the supplementary var...
