چکیده

We have investigated silver diffusion driven by heating or irradiation with light in sulfur-rich Ge–S thin films close to the composition Ge S . Quantitative data regarding the amount of diffused silver has been gathered using Rutherford backscattering 20 80 spectrometry. Thermal diffusion produces films with 35 at.% silver in the glassy matrix at saturation while photodiffusion forms a film with a maximum concentration of 43 at.% silver. Auger electron spectroscopy was used to establish that silver penetrates deeper in the chalcogenide film and the diffusion kinetics lacks an induction period when irradiation with light is applied. The shifts in the binding energies of the participating elements suggest that sulfur is in an oxidized state and is mainly coupled with germanium for thermal diffusion while in the case of photodiffusion it reacts predominantly with silver. 2003 Elsevier B.V. Heterogeneity of Molecular Structure of Ag Photo-Diffused Ge30Se70 Thin Films

Silver photodiffusion in thin Ge30Se70 films is investigated in order to understand the structure forming in the Ge-Se host after introduction of Ag in it. Optical micrographs point towards formation of homogeneous films after deposition of the Ge-Se material on glass substrate. This structure changes and occurrence of heterogeneous regions is imaged after Ag is introduced into the Ge-Se host. ...

Effect of photo-oxidation on the photodiffusion of silver in germanium chalcogenide glasses

We report results on photoinduced changes in Ge-chalcogenide glasses, which occur in ultra high vacuum (UHV) vs. in air. They demonstrate the important role of oxygen that determines the magnitude and the type of the photoinduced effects. To observe photodiffusion without the presence of oxygen, Ag/glass thin films were prepared, subjected to photodiffusion, and chemically analyzed, all within ...

Ag-photodoping in Ge-chalcogenide amorphous thin films—Reaction products and their characterization

We make a brief review on the effect of silver photodiffusion in Ge-chalcogenide glasses and report some of our recent results in this aspect. Using Raman spectroscopy and X-ray diffraction analysis we demonstrate that the hosting backbone undergoes depletion in chalcogen due to the specific conditions of photodiffusion and the diffusion products are silver chalcogenides. While in the Ge–Se sys...

N anoscale phase separation in Ag–Ge–Se glasses

We have investigated the materials formed by Ag photodiffusion in Se-rich Ge–Se thin glass films. The amount of Ag that can be incorporated by this method saturates at a level dependent on the quantity of Se in the starting glass. The photodiffused Ag reacts with the Se to form distinct Ag Se and Ge-rich backbone phases as 2 determined by Raman and XRD analyses. The conducting Ag Se phases exis...
