چکیده

The performance evaluation of mobile packet switching networks is nowadays an important topic in mobile communications. In the INTERNET, a classical packet switching environment, a hierarchical approach to the mobility management problem has been followed, focusing mainly on macro-level and micro-level mobility: while MOBILE IP provides a good framework for allowing users to roam between domains, several protocols have been proposed handling local mobility and giving a basic support of intra-domain roaming, e.g., CELLULAR IP. In order to minimize signalling, and scale to support a growing number of mobile subscribers, CELLULAR IP supports the notion of passive connectivity, based on the separation between active and idle users. Roughly speaking, location management is executed for idle mobile stations, while route-update management is performed for active mobile stations. Active state is supervised by a timer which, together with a suitable active state timeout, lead to an adequate mobility management. The aim of this paper is to evaluate analytically the signalling load of the CELLULAR IP protocol for location management (Idle state) and route-update management (Active state). 2004 Elsevier B.V. Design and evaluation of signaling protocols for mobility management in an integrated IP environment

In the future mobile network, satellites will operate alongside cellular networks in order to provide seamless connectivity irrespective of the location of the user. Such a service scenario requires that the next generation of mobility management (MM) procedures are able to ensure terminal and user mobility on a global scale. This paper considers how the principles of Mobile-IP can be used to d...

Telecommunication Networks Group Design , Implementation and Performance of Multicast - Based Paging for IP Mobility

Originally, paging has been used in cellular networks to alert a mobile station of an incoming call within a paging area comprised of several cells. Today’s most popular usage of paging is the exchange of short messages. With growing importance of all-IP mobile networks it is expected that an IP paging service will prevail. This report studies the usage of paging in IP-based networks to search ...

On the Analysis of Cellular IP Access Networks

Mobile IP represents a simple and scalable global mobility solution but lacks support for fast handoff control and real-time location tracking found in cellular networks today. In contrast, third generation cellular systems offer seamless mobility support but are built on complex and costly connection-oriented networking infrastructure that lacks the inherent flexibility, robustness and scalabi...

Mobile IP and cellular IP integration for inter access networks handoff

ÿþýüûúùü ÿ In this contribution two solutions for the management of cellular intranet, based on the Mobile IP and Cellular IP protocols integration are investigated. The first solution adopts a centralized architecture build over the gateway and the home agent. It is most suited for security needs and client/server traffic. The second solution utilizes the mobile IP with routing optimization fo...
