Time-Resolved Whole-Brain CMRO2 Quantification by MR Susceptometry and Flow Mapping

چکیده
Background/Purpose: The cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen consumption (CMRO2) is a fundamental physiologic parameter that has only recently become amenable to measurement by noninvasive imaging modalities (1). Here, we present an approach based on simultaneous quantification of venous oxygen saturation (SvO2) and total flow, yielding CMRO2 in absolute physiologic units by invoking Fick’s equation (2). We show that the method lends insight into the physiologic response to various stimuli.

Prospects for rapid CMRO2 quantification with interleaved TRUST, susceptometry-based oximetry, and phase-contrast MRI
INTRODUCTION: Cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen consumption (CMRO2) is believed to be a more direct measure of neurometabolic function than traditional measures such as CBF or BOLD fMRI. While regionalization remains a major challenge, MR-based methods for whole-brain CMRO2 quantification have the ability to robustly measure CMRO2 at baseline, in response to physiologic stimuli, and in a variet...

INTRODUCTION Global oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2 ) were quantified in a test-retest study. Cerebral blood flow (CBF) data, required for CMRO2 estimation, were obtained using dynamic susceptibility contrast MRI (DSC-MRI). OEF and CMRO2 were quantified using two separate data sets, that is, conventional high-resolution (HR) gradient echo (GRE) phas...

Introduction: The cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) is an important indicator for brain function and disease, including stroke and tumor. CMRO2 can be quantified from measurements of venous oxygen saturation (Yv) and cerebral blood flow (CBF) in cerebral veins. Bulk susceptibility measurements based on gradient-echo phase maps have been used to estimate Yv in vivo at 3T [1]. Challenges ...
متن کاملNon-invasive measurement of cerebral oxygen metabolism in the mouse brain by ultra-high field (17)O MR spectroscopy.
To assess cerebral energetics in transgenic mouse models of neurologic disease, a robust, efficient, and practical method for quantification of cerebral oxygen consumption is needed. (17)O magnetic resonance spectroscopy (MRS) has been validated to measure cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) in the rat brain; however, mice present unique challenges because of their small size. We show tha...
متن کاملQUantitative Imaging of eXtraction of oxygen and TIssue
While oxygen extraction fraction (OEF) and cerebral metabolic rate of oxygen (CMRO2) are fundamental parameters of brain health and function, a robust MRI-based mapping of OEF and CMRO2 amenable to functional MRI (fMRI) has not been established. To address this issue, a novel method called QUantitative Imaging of eXtraction of Oxygen and TIssue Consumption, or QUIXOTIC, is introduced. The key i...
