WALFORD, M.D. T HE CLINICAL ENTITY of syphilitic paroxysmal cold hemoglohimsuria has beens adequately described by Rosensbach,’ Domsath amid Landsteiner,2 Mackenszie,3 Ross4 amid others. Ins this disease exposure to cold induces a paroxysm characterized by a shakinig chill, fever, flank pain amid hemoglobinuria. This phensomensoni is thought to be due to a cold hemolysims found ins the patienit’s serum. Ins vitro experiments have showms that this antibody will sensitize the patienit’s erythrocytes, or those of another insdividual, upon exposure to cold. Subsequenst inscubations at 37 C. ins the presence of complement will bring about lysis of the senisitized cells.
