چکیده
By E. T. PETERSON, A.B. AND H. L. WALFORD, M.D. T HE CLINICAL ENTITY of syphilitic paroxysmal cold hemoglohimsuria has beens adequately described by Rosensbach,’ Domsath amid Landsteiner,2 Mackenszie,3 Ross4 amid others. Ins this disease exposure to cold induces a paroxysm characterized by a shakinig chill, fever, flank pain amid hemoglobinuria. This phensomensoni is thought to be due to a cold hemolysims found ins the patienit’s serum. Ins vitro experiments have showms that this antibody will sensitize the patienit’s erythrocytes, or those of another insdividual, upon exposure to cold. Subsequenst inscubations at 37 C. ins the presence of complement will bring about lysis of the senisitized cells. The most recemst amid detailed work oni theexact meehamsism of this reactions (the Donsath-Lansdsteiner reactions) has heens done 1w Jordan. Pillemer and Dingle.” 6

Serologic and Physicochemical Characterization of Donath- Landsteiner Antibodies from Six Patients.
By CARL F. HINz, JR. T HE HEMOLYSIN of the Donath-Landsteiner reaction, responsible for [)arOxysmal cold hemoglobinuria, has not been characterized physicochemically. Other erythrocyte agglutinins and hemolysins have been identified in both the 75 and 195 fractions of y-globulin,1 and certain other of the cold antibodies have been identified with the 195 globulins.2 Further, the Donath-Landstei...
متن کاملThe Mechanism of Hemolysis in Paroxysmal Cold
Donath and Landsteiner demonstrated that the abnormal factor responsible for hemolysis in paroxysmal cold hemoglobinuria (PCH) is in the patient's serum (1). Inactivation of the serum by heat prevented hemolysis, but the addition of fresh serum restored the activity. The hemolytic reaction in vitro was shown to occur in two phases: 1) a cold phase during which antibody (hemolysin) is adsorbed o...

Three examples of non-syphilitic paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria (PCH) in children are described which occurred, within a period of 16 days, in association with a febrile illness. No definite viral aetiology or obvious epidemiological association could be established. A Donath-Landsteiner antibody of anti-P specificity was demonstrated in all three patients. The serological aspects of PCH are c...

By J. V. DAdE, M.B., M.R.C.P. LONDON H YDROGEN ion concentration has a controlling effect upon many hemolytic systems, both simple and complex. Osbor& in 1934 reviewed the early literature on the effect of pH on the hemolysis by complement of corpuscles sensitized by hemolytic immune body. He found that the optimum reaction for the hemolysis of sheep corpuscles by guinea pig serum was about pH ...
متن کاملSyphilitic paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria. Case report and study of the Coombs test.
A case of congenital syphilis which presented with paroxysmal cold haemoglobinuria is described. The patient had aortic incompetence, and the significance of this finding is discussed. The Coombs test was studied, and positive results appear to be due to interaction between antiglobulin serum and complement adsorbed on to the test cells, this adsorption being promoted by the cold antibodies.
