Goal-Driven Autonomy for Cognitive Systems

چکیده
Complex, dynamic environments present special challenges to autonomous agents. Specifically, agents have difficulty when the world does not cooperate with design assumptions. We present an approach to autonomy that seeks to maximize robustness rather than optimality on a specific task. Goaldriven autonomy involves recognizing possibly new problems, explaining what causes the problems and generating goals to solve the problems. We present such a model within the MIDCA cognitive architecture and show that under certain conditions this model outperforms a less flexible approach to handling unexpected events.

Self-Regulation, Goal Orientation, Tolerance of Ambiguity and Autonomy as Predictors of Iranian EFL learners’ Second Language Achievement: A Structural Equation Modeling Approach
The identification of the cognitive, affective, social and even physiological factors affecting second or foreign language learning routes and rate has for long been a challenging aspiration for second language researchers. However, a recent preoccupation of the researchers in this area has been the study of the combinatorial impacts of such factors on second or foreign language learning proces...
متن کاملData-Driven Programming and Behavior for Autonomous Virtual Characters
In the creation of autonomous virtual characters, two levels of autonomy are common. They are often called motion synthesis (low-level autonomy) and behavior synthesis (high-level autonomy), where an action (i.e. motion) achieves a short-term goal and a behavior is a sequence of actions that achieves a long-term goal. There exists a rich literature addressing many aspects of this general proble...
متن کاملCognitive Architectures and Autonomy: A Comparative Review
One of the original goals of artificial intelligence (AI) research was to create machines with very general cognitive capabilities and a relatively high level of autonomy. It has taken the field longer than many had expected to achieve even a fraction of this goal; the community has focused on building specific, targeted cognitive processes in isolation, and as of yet no system exists that inte...
متن کاملA Self-Optimization of the Dynamic Resource Management Based on the Cognitive Radio
This paper describes a novel self-optimized approach for resource management based on the cognitive radio in the cellular networks. The cognitive radio techniques offer several features like autonomy, sensing and negotiation. The use of cognitive radio approach gives greater autonomy to the base stations in the cellular networks. This autonomy allows an increase in flexibility to deal with new ...
متن کاملHierarchical Goal Networks and Goal-Driven Autonomy: Going where AI Planning Meets Goal Reasoning
Planning systems are typically told what goals to pursue and cannot modify them. Some methods (e.g., for contingency planning, dynamic replanning) can respond to execution failures, but usually ignore opportunities and do not reason about the goals themselves. Goal-Driven Autonomy (GDA) relaxes some common assumptions of classical planning (e.g., static environments, fixed goals, no unpredictab...
