Optimizing Buffer Management for Reliable Multicast
نویسندگان
چکیده
Reliable multicast delivery requires that a multicast message be received by all members in a group. Hence certain or all members need to buffer messages for possible retransmissions. Designing an efficient buffer management algorithm is challenging in large multicast groups where no member has complete group membership information and the delivery latency to different members could differ by orders of magnitude. We propose an innovative two-phase buffering algorithm, which explicitly addresses variations in delivery latency seen in large multicast groups. The algorithm effectively reduces buffer requirements by adaptively allocating buffer space to messages most needed in the system and by spreading the load of buffering among all members in the group. Simulation results demonstrate that the algorithm has good performance.

Reliable Buffering Management Algorithm Support for Multicast Protocol in Mobile Ad-hoc Networks
Multicasting is one of the relevant issues of communication in infrastructure or centralized administration networks. The reliable delivery of multicast data packets needs feedback from all multicast receivers to indicate whether a retransmission is necessary. A reliable multicast delivery in the wireless Ad-hoc network requires a multicast packet to be received by all multicast receiver nodes....
متن کاملA Logical Ring Reliable Multicast Protocol for Mobile Nodes
A protocol for the reliable multicast of data to mobile hosts is described. A logical ring is maintained between all the base stations that handle the multicast traffic of the same multicast group. A token passing protocol enforces a consistent view between all base stations with respect to the frames that are considered delivered to all mobiles. The interaction of the reliable multicasting and...
متن کاملA Dual Mode Buffer for Reliable Multicast in Mobile IP Networks
In mobile IP networks, a local mobility agent is extended to assist reliable multicast for mobile nodes. Each agent keeps in its buffer all packets that are likely to be requested by any of its mobile nodes. They can provide reliable service by performing a retransmission for the requested packet from its mobile nodes. When a mobile node moves to another subnet, transmission errors tend to happ...

We describe a Model RSM2 (A Reliable and Scalable Multicast Model). The approach we adopt uses Proactive-Routing, Minimum-Cost Path Algorithm, Combo-casting, Active Server Based Recovery, NACKBased acknowledgement, Buffer Management, Optimized Flooding Algorithm. The main characteristic of RSM2 model is, to provide complete multicasting, i.e. at the same time more than one node can act as sende...
متن کاملAnalysis of hybrid router-assisted reliable multicast protocols in lossy networks
Router-assisted concepts have been proposed in many research areas including reliable multicast protocols. These concepts can limit the implosion and repair locality problems in an effective way by attributing the role of repair locality to the specific router close to the point of packet loss. Several router-assisted reliable multicast protocols have been proposed in the literature. However, t...
