چکیده

Evolutionary game theory is an adaptation of classical game theory used to analyse and explain observed natural phenomena where organisms choose between alternative behavioural strategies. Recent analyses and simulations of evolutionary games have shown that implementation choices such as population size and selection method can have unexpected effects on the course of evolution. In this paper, we propose a new evolutionary interpretation of such games that uses a more biologically faithful selection scheme, in which selection choices and population size emerge from the interactions of the players and their environment. Using the well-known Hawks and Doves game as an example, we show that the resulting models are also tractable, easily simulated, and flexible.

A Hawk-Dove game in kleptoparasitic populations

Kleptoparasitism, the parasitism by theft, is a widespread biological phenomenon. In this paper we extend earlier models to investigate a population of conspecifics involved in foraging and, potentially, kleptoparasitism. We assume that the population is composed of two types of individuals, Hawks and Doves. The types differ according to their strategic choices when faced with an opportunity to...

Dynamical patterns of coexisting strategies in a hybrid discrete-continuum spatial evolutionary game model

We present a novel hybrid modelling framework that takes into account two aspects which have been largely neglected in previous models of spatial evolutionary games: random motion and chemotaxis. A stochastic individual-based model is used to describe the player dynamics, whereas the evolution of the chemoattractant is governed by a reaction-diffusion equation. The two models are coupled by der...

A rare mutation model in a spatial heterogeneous environment: the Hawk and Dove game

We propose a stochastic model in evolutionary game theory where individuals (or subpopulations) can mutate changing their strategies randomly (but rarely) and explore the external environment. This environment affects the selective pressure by modifying the payoff arising from the interactions between strategies. We derive a Fokker-Plank integro-differential equation and provide Monte-Carlo sim...

Hawks and Doves in an Artificial Dynamically Structured Society

Using a dynamical network model of society, we show that cooperation is the norm in the Hawks-Doves game when individuals are allowed to break ties with undesirable neighbors and to make new acquaintances in their extended neighborhood. This is an interesting result, as standard theory for mixing populations prescribes that a certain fraction of defectors must always exist at equilibrium. We di...

The hawk-dove game in a sexually reproducing species explains a colourful polymorphism of an endangered bird.

The hawk-dove game famously introduced strategic game theory thinking into biology and forms the basis of arguments for limited aggression in animal populations. However, aggressive 'hawks' and peaceful 'doves', with strategies inherited in a discrete manner, have never been documented in a real animal population. Thus, the applicability of game-theoretic arguments to real populations might be ...
