چکیده
We propose a scheme for bright sub-100-femtosecond X-ray radiation generation using smallangle Thomson scattering. Coupling high-brightness electron bunches with high-power ultrafast laser pulses, radiation with photon energies between 8to 40-keV can be generated with pulse duration comparable to that of the incoming laser pulse with peak spectral brightness close to those of the third-generation synchrotron light sources of ~10 photons s mm mrad per 10 bandwidth. Thomson scattering sources of fs X-rays based on laser wakefield accelerators
The possibility of producing ultrashort (fs) X-ray pulses through Thomson scattering of high power laser pulses off relativistic electron bunches generated by plasma-based accelerators is discussed. The electron bunches are produced with either a self-modulated laser wakefield accelerator (SM-LWFA) or through a standard laser wakefield accelerator (LWFA) with optical injection. For a SM-LWFA (L...

Ultrafast electron-based coherent radiation sources, such as free-electron lasers (FELs), ultrafast electron diffraction (UED) and Thomson-scattering sources, are becoming more important sources in today's ultrafast science. Photocathode laser is an indispensable common subsystem in these sources that generates ultrafast electron pulses. To fully exploit the potentials of these sources, especia...
متن کاملFemtosecond Electron and X-ray Generation by Laser and Plasma-based Sources
The generation of ultra-short x-rays by Thomson scattering intense laser pulses from electron beams is discussed, including recent experimental results and methods for enhancing the x-ray flux. A high flux of x-rays in a femtosecond pulse requires the generation of femtosecond electron bunches and a head-on Thomson scattering geometry. The generation of ultrashort electron bunches in a plasmaba...

A high-brightne...
