Diabetes insipidus with impaired osmotic regulation in septo-optic dysplasia and agenesis of the corpus callosum.

چکیده
The clinical and endocrinological findings in 24 children with septo-optic dysplasia and/or agenesis of the corpus callosum are described with particular reference to posterior pituitary function. Nine had diabetes insipidus. The prevalence of diabetes insipidus was similar in children with complete and incomplete forms of septo-optic dysplasia. Maintenance of normal osmotic balance was very difficult in six of these children, even after the introduction of treatment with vasopressin, either as desmopressin, or lysine vasopressin spray in one of the early cases.

OBJECTIVE To describe the clinical, ophthalmological, endocrinological and radiological features of 10 Saudi children with the syndrome of septo-optic dysplasia and hypothalamic hypopituitarism. METHODS All patients underwent complete ophthalmological and endocrinological evaluation at the Pediatric Endocrine Clinics, King Faisal Specialist Hospital and Research Center and King Fahad National...
متن کاملNovel proximal 14q deletion: clinical and diffusion tensor imaging tractography findings in a patient with lissencephaly, agenesis of the corpus callosum, and septo-optic dysplasia.
We report the unique CNS findings in a patient with a proximal chromosome 14q interstitial deletion. Conventional MR imaging allowed the clear delineation of agenesis of the corpus callosum, SOD, and diffuse lissencephaly. DTI tractography played a significant role in the evaluation of the proximal 14q deletion-associated abnormalities, delineating the extent of the dysmorphic connections of th...
متن کاملNovel FGF8 mutations associated with recessive holoprosencephaly, craniofacial defects, and hypothalamo-pituitary dysfunction.
CONTEXT Fibroblast growth factor (FGF) 8 is important for GnRH neuronal development with human mutations resulting in Kallmann syndrome. Murine data suggest a role for Fgf8 in hypothalamo-pituitary development; however, its role in the etiology of wider hypothalamo-pituitary dysfunction in humans is unknown. OBJECTIVE The objective of this study was to screen for FGF8 mutations in patients wi...
متن کاملSpectrum of corpus callosum agenesis – two different clinical patterns
Agenesis of the corpus callosum (ACC) is a malformation which may occur either isolated or in association with other CNS or systemic abnormalities. ACC occurs sporadically, although the incidence is increased in chromosomal disorders such as trisomy 8, 13, or 18. Familial cases have also been reported. Apart from the CNS, the musculoskeletal and genitourinary systems may be affected as well. We...
متن کاملMRI of corpus callosal syndromes.
Six patients, 6 to 13 years old, with corpus callosal abnormalities diagnosed by electroencephalography or CT were studied with a 0.15 T MR imager to determine the effectiveness of MRI in evaluating midline anomalies. Spin-echo images in the coronal, axial, and sagittal planes were obtained in two patients with Aicardi's syndrome and partial agenesis of the corpus callosum, in one patient with ...
