A Distributed Agent Based System For Supporting Virtual Software Corporations

چکیده
Virtual Software Corporations (VSCs) are a novel organisational form that use the competitive advantage provided by access to scarce competencies and economies of scale in software development. The main feature of a VSC is the distributed and temporary nature of the teams involved and the use of communication and information technology to support its activities. Large-scale software developments have always involved significant co-operative work and have been supported by automated process support environments, which help manage and support the associated workflow activities. However, VSCs are characterised by significantly more dynamic processes which cannot be adequately supported by current process modelling representation and enactment systems. Here we present a distribute multi-agent system using a deontic logic based formalism to model the commitments of process actors in VSCs. The actions performed in a VSC are captured using this formalism and support for specific co-ordination issues identified by the case study of a real-life VSC is provided. We demonstrate how this distributed multi-agent system can support the dynamic nature of the executable process model of VSCs.

A Concept for Supporting the Formation of Virtual Corporations through Negotiation
This paper describes a system that supports software development processes in virtual software corporations. A virtual software corporation consists of a set of enterprises that cooperate in projects to fulfill customer needs. Contracts are negotiated in the whole lifecycle of a software development project. The negotiations really influence the performance of a company. Therefore, it is useful...
متن کاملUtsaf: a Multi-agent-based Framework for Supporting Military-based Distributed Interactive Simulations in 3d Virtual Environments
A Military-based distributed interactive simulation (DIS) such as ModSAF has been used for many years. Several problems of the DIS-based simulation to support a large and heterogeneous virtual simulation environments have been discovered (Stone, Zyda, Brutzman, and Falby 1996). To solve these problems, we propose an architectural multiagent-based framework to support a large military-based simu...
متن کاملA Deontic Formalism for Co-ordinating Software Development in Virtual Software Corporations
The concept of the Virtual Software Corporation (VSC) has recently become a practical reality as a result of advances in communication and distributed technologies. However, there are significant difficulties with the management of the software development process within a VSC. The main problem is the significantly increased communicational complexity of the process model for such developments....
متن کاملTeachable Agents in Virtual Learning Environments: a Case Study
As intelligent agent and virtual world technologies advanced to new heights in the current decade, researchers from diverse fields have started to look into possible ways of applying these emerging technologies to improve e-learning systems. Nevertheless, most attempts focused on using pedagogical agents to achieve traditional e-learning goals which place heavy emphasis on learning outcomes. In...
متن کاملIntelligent Contracting: Software Agents, Corporate Bodies And Virtual Organizations
Legal doctrine starts to speak of Inter-systemic electronic contracting, where an important role is played by soft bots, i.e., intelligent software agents, which may be fiction as tools controlled by humans or faced as subjects of electronic commerce, or even seen as legal objects or as legal subjects. The use of software agents in electronic commerce scenarios must be connected with the existe...
