چکیده
Over the past two decades, molecular genetic research has helped to elucidate the genetic component of many diseases and conditions. Patients can now be tested for a wide variety of disease-causing genes to improve dia gnoses and risk predictions for patients and their families (www.eddnal.com). This, in turn, has allowed physicians to provide advice on lifestyle or other preventative measures and on surveillance, prophyl actic and therapeutic possibilities. Moreover, the identification of a genetic component of a disease can act as a starting point for further research to unravel disease mechanisms and for the development of therapeutic interventions.
