Deriving Link Travel - Time Distributions via Stochastic Speed Processes
نویسندگان
چکیده
W derive an analytical expression for the cumulative distribution function of travel time for a vehicle traversing a freeway link of arbitrary length. The vehicle’s speed is assumed to be modulated by a random environment that can be modeled as a stochastic process. We first present a partial differential equation (PDE) describing the travel time distribution and obtain a solution in terms of Laplace transforms. Next, we present a numerical inversion algorithm to invert the transforms. The technique is demonstrated on two example problems. Numerical results indicate great promise for this approach to the link travel-time problem.

Estimation of Travel Time Distributions in Urban Road Networks Using Low-Frequency Floating Car Data
Travel times in urban road networks are highly stochastic. However, most existing travel time estimation methods only estimate the mean travel times, while ignoring travel time variances. To this end, this paper proposes a robust travel time distribution estimation method to estimate both the mean and variance of travel times by using emerging low-frequency floating car data. Different from the...
متن کاملHeterogeneous Data Fusion Method to Estimate Travel Time Distributions in Congested Road Networks
Travel times in congested urban road networks are highly stochastic. Provision of travel time distribution information, including both mean and variance, can be very useful for travelers to make reliable path choice decisions to ensure higher probability of on-time arrival. To this end, a heterogeneous data fusion method is proposed to estimate travel time distributions by fusing heterogeneous ...
متن کاملAn Investigation in the Use of Vehicle Reidentification for Deriving Travel Time and Travel Time Distributions
This paper presents the results from an investigation in the use of vehicle reidentification for deriving travel time and travel time distributions using loop and video detectors. Vehicle reidentification is the process of tracking vehicles anonymously from site to site thus yielding individual vehicle travel times and overall travel time distribution. Travel time and travel time distribution a...
متن کاملProbability distributions of travel times on arterial networks: a tra c ow and horizontal queuing theory approach
In arterial networks, traffic flow dynamics are driven by the presence of traffic signals, for which precise signal timing is difficult to obtain in arbitrary networks or might change over time. A comprehensive model of arterial traffic flow dynamics is necessary to capture its specific features in order to provide accurate traffic estimation approaches. From hydrodynamic theory, we model arter...
متن کاملNonhomogeneous Poisson Fields of Random Lines with Applications to Traffic Flow
This study was prompted by investigations of models of traffic flow on a highway through analyses of the structure and properties of Poisson fields of random lines in a plane. It is possible to view the trajectory of a car produced by its time and space coordinates on the highway as a straight line in that plane if the car travels at a constant speed once it enters the highway and then never le...
