چکیده

The Advanced Photon Source (APS) was commissioned in 1995 as a third-generation x-ray user facility. At that time orbit control was performed exclusively with broadband rf beam position monitors (BPMs). Since then, emphasis has been placed on incorporating x-ray beam position monitors into the orbit control algorithms. This has resulted in an order of magnitude improvement in long-term beam stability vertically, using x-ray BPMs (X-BPMs) on bending magnet beamlines. Additional processing will allow similar improvements horizontally, once systematic effects associated with variable insertion device (ID) xray beams are properly compensated. Progress to date and upgrade plans will be presented, with an emphasis on the details of the required digital signal processing.

X-ray BPM-Based Feedback System at the APS Storage Ring

At the Advanced Photon Source (AI%) storage ring, the X-ray beam position monitors (X-BPMS) measure accurate photon position down to the subrnicron level. This level of stable measurement has been possible due to 1) superior thermal insulation and vibration damping of the X-ray BPM support structure [1], 2) minimal dependence on the bunch pattern and intensity variations, and 3) use of uhrastab...

Real-Time Orbit Feedback at the APS

A real-time orbit feedback system has been implemented at the Advanced Photon Source in order to meet the stringent orbit stability requirements. The system reduces global orbit motion below 30 Hz by a factor of four to below 5 l.trn rms horizontally and 2 pm rms vertically. This paper focuses on dynamic orbit stability and describes the all-digital orbit feedback system that has been implement...

Fundamental Limits on Beam Stability at the Advanced Photon Source

Orbit correction is now routinely performed at the few-micron level in the Advanced Photon Source (APS) storage ring. Three diagnostics are presently in use to measure and control both AC and DC orbit motions: broad-band turn-by-turn rf beam position monitors (BPMs), narrow-band switched heterodyne receivers, and photoemission-style x-ray beam position monitors. Each type of diagnostic has its ...

Commissioning of the APS Real-Time Orbit Feedback System

A unified global and local closed-orbit feedback system has been implemented at the Advanced Photon Source in order to stabilize both particle and photon beams. Beam stability requirements in the band up to 50Hz are 17μm in the horizontal plane and 4.4μm vertically. Orbit feedback algorithms are implemented digitally using multiple digital signal processors, with computing power distributed in ...

Smart X-ray beam position monitor system using artificial-intelligence methods for the Advanced Photon Source insertion-device beamlines.

At the Advanced Photon Source (APS), each insertion-device (ID) beamline front end has two X-ray beam position monitors (XBPMs) to monitor the X-ray beam position for both vertical and horizontal directions. Performance challenges for a conventional photoemission-type XBPM during operations are contamination of the signal from the neighbouring bending-magnet sources and the sensitivity of the X...
