چکیده

The need to accurately track breakups and satellite clusters, as well as to resolve uncorrelated tracks (UCTs), especially uncorrelated optical observations (UCOs), requires new, robust, and autonomous methods for space surveillance to enable the development and maintenance of the space catalog and to support the overall SSA mission. This paper presents results on the performance of a newly-developed, statistically-robust, system-level, multiple hypothesis tracking (MHT) capability for joint catalog maintenance, UCT/UCO resolution, and initial orbit determination, in multiple regimes of space. A recent companion paper described some of the unique components contained within the authors’ implementation of MHT, including the multiframe data association problem and the statistical framework used for scoring the likelihood that a sequence of measurements, UCTs/UCOs, and other reports emanate from a common object (either newly-discovered or already catalogued). As demonstrated by the results in this paper, the MHT system provides superior tracking performance (compared to existing methods for data association) in realistic multi-sensor multiobject tracking scenarios over multiple regimes of space. Specifically, we demonstrate that the prototype MHT system can accurately and efficiently process tens of thousands of UCTs/UCOs emanating from thousands of space objects in realtime on a single processor.

Single Maneuvering Target Tracking in Clutter Based on Multiple Model Algorithm with Gaussian Mixture Reduction

The measurement origin uncertainty and target (dynamic or/and measurement) model uncertainty are two fundamental problems in maneuvering target tracking in clutter. The multiple hypothesis tracker (MHT) and multiple model (MM) algorithm are two well-known methods dealing with these two problems, respectively. In this work, we address the problem of single maneuvering target tracking in clutter ...

Modified Scoring in Multiple-Hypothesis Tracking

Track-oriented multiple hypothesis tracking (MHT) is well-established as a paradigm for multi-sensor multitarget tracking. The fundamental approach includes many variants. Hypothesis-oriented MHT was first proposed by Reid [10]. The initial integer-programming formulation of the problem is due to Morefield [8]. The hybrid-state decomposition that allows for computationally-efficient track-orien...

First Order Multiple Hypothesis Testing for the Global Nearest Neighbor Data Correlation Approach

The growing necessity in multiple targets tracking (MTT) in surveillance systems, with the recent dramatic increase in computational capabilities, has lead to a major interest in improving the performance of classical methods, such as the Global Nearest Neighbor (GNN), to enhanced schemes of Data Correlation. Today, the Multiple Hypothesis Testing (MHT) is generally accepted as the preferred ap...

A Library for Implementing the Multiple Hypothesis Tracking Algorithm

The Multiple Hypothesis Tracking (MHT) algorithm is known to produce good results in difficult multi-target tracking situations. However, its implementation is not trivial, and is associated with a significant programming effort, code size and long implementation time. We propose a library which addresses these problems by providing a domain independent implementation of the most complex MHT op...

Multi-Stage Multiple-Hypothesis Tracking

A broad overview of approaches to data fusion is provided in [1]. The most powerful current approach to real-time, scan-based data fusion is multi-hypothesis tracking (MHT), which was first introduced in the late 1970s [11] and made feasible in the mid-1980s with the track-oriented approach [9]. A number of enhancements to the basic approach have appeared over the years [1]. If contact measurem...
