چکیده

Using data from more than ten-years of observations with the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA), we published a result that the energy spectrum of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays extends beyond the cutoff energy predicted by Greisen [1], and Zatsepin and Kuzmin [2]. In this paper, we reevaluate the energy determination method used for AGASA events with respect to the lateral distribution of shower particles, their attenuation with zenith angle, shower front structure, delayed particles observed far from the core and other factors. The currently assigned energies of AGASA events have an accuracy of ±25% in event-reconstruction resolution and ±18% in systematic errors around 1020eV. This systematic uncertainty is independent of primary energy above 1019eV. Based on the energy spectrum from 1014.5eV to a few times 1020eV determined at Akeno, there are surely events above 1020eV and the energy spectrum extends up to a few times 1020eV without a GZK-cutoff.

Simulation Calibration of an Extensive Air Shower array, by a logged data set of its small prototype

Alborz observatory is an EAS array in the heights of Alborez mountain chain near Tehran. For the development of the array, more number of detectors is inevitable. The managing the financial resources and achieving the highest efficiency of the array is important for the project. Therefore, Water Cherenkov Detectors has been used for 9 months in the same way as the previous experiment with Scint...

The Anisotropy of Cosmic Ray Arrival Directions around 10eV

Anisotropy in the arrival directions of cosmic rays with energies above 10eV is studied using data from the Akeno 20 km array and the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA), using a total of about 114,000 showers observed over 11 years. In the first harmonic analysis, we have found strong anisotropy of ∼ 4% around 10eV, corresponding to a chance probability of ∼ 0.2% after taking the number of in...

Angular Correlation Estimates for Ultrahigh Energy Cosmic Rays

Identifying the sources of ultrahigh energy cosmic rays remains one of the major challenges in astrophysics. If these cosmic rays are not too severely deflected by magnetic fields while in transit, then their arrival directions will provide crucial information about their origins. The High Resolution Fly’s Eye (HiRes) experiment, consisting of two air fluorescence detector sites, has been makin...

Small-scale Anisotropy of Cosmic Rays above 1019 Ev Observed with the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array

With the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array, 581 cosmic rays above 1019 eV, 47 above 4] 1019 eV, and seven above 1020 eV were observed until 1998 August. The arrival direction distribution of these extremely high energy cosmic rays has been studied. While no signiÐcant large-scale anisotropy is found on the celestial sphere, some interesting clusters of cosmic rays are observed. Above 4 ] 1019 eV, th...

Observation of a Very Energetic Cosmic Ray Well Beyond the Predicted 2.7 K Cutoff in the Primary Energy Spectrum.

A very energetic cosmic ray of energy about (1.72.6)10 20 eV was observed by the Akeno Giant Air Shower Array (AGASA) on December 3, 1993 from the direction of galactic longitude l=131 and galactic latitude b=-41 within an error circle of 1.0 radius. Shower characteristics such as lateral distribution and arrival time spread of charged particles, and lateral distribution of muons (0.5GeV) are w...
