Optimizing survivability of vulnerable series-parallel multi-state systems

چکیده
In this paper we consider vulnerable systems which can have different states corresponding to different combinations of available elements composing the system. Each state can be characterized by a system performance rate, which is the quantitative measure of a system’s ability to perform its task. Both the impact of external factors (attack) and internal causes (failures) affect system survivability which is determined as probability of meeting a given demand. We formulate the problem of finding structure of series–parallel multi-state system (including choice of system elements, their separation and protection) in order to achieve a desired level of system survivability by the minimal cost. An algorithm based on the universal generating function method is suggested for determination of the vulnerable series–parallel multistate system survivability. A genetic algorithm is used as optimization tool in order to solve the structure optimization problem. q 2002 Elsevier Science Ltd. All rights reserved.

A Multi Objective Graph Based Model for Analyzing Survivability of Vulnerable Networks
In the various fields of disaster management, choosing the best location for the Emergency Support & Supply Service Centers (ESSSCs) and the survivability of the network that provides the links between ESSSCs and their environment has a great role to be paid enough attention. This paper introduces a graph based model to measure the survivability of the linking's network. By values computed for ...
متن کاملComparing Parallel Simulated Annealing, Parallel Vibrating Damp Optimization and Genetic Algorithm for Joint Redundancy-Availability Problems in a Series-Parallel System with Multi-State Components
In this paper, we study different methods of solving joint redundancy-availability optimization for series-parallel systems with multi-state components. We analyzed various effective factors on system availability in order to determine the optimum number and version of components in each sub-system and consider the effects of improving failure rates of each component in each sub-system and impr...
متن کاملA New Continuous Multi-State Reliability Model with Time Dependent Component Performance Rate
A CSS1†is a system with the continues-state components. When a component has the ability to obtain all the situations from completely working to completely failed, it named continues-state component. In the real world, performance rate of elements are continuous and decrease by time. Continuity of components causes infinite working states and grows up the system states. In this paper we propose...

متن کاملA Multi Objective Optimization Model for Redundancy Allocation Problems in Series-Parallel Systems with Repairable Components
The main goal in this paper is to propose an optimization model for determining the structure of a series-parallel system. Regarding the previous studies in series-parallel systems, the main contribution of this study is to expand the redundancy allocation parallel to systems that have repairable components. The considered optimization model has two objectives: maximizing the system mean time t...
