Mast cells as mediators and modulators of atherogenesis.

چکیده
The central role of inflammation in atherogenesis has gained broad acceptance and has revolutionized our understanding of this common disease. This recognition has heightened interest in identifying the specific mediators and mechanisms that contribute to the interplay between risk factors (traditional and emerging), inflammation, and the altered biology of the arterial wall that regulates plaque development and complication.1 In particular, leukocytes have come to occupy center stage as the major cellular effectors of inflammation. When these inflammatory cells join endothelial and smoothmuscle cells in the artery wall, they spur much of the biology that drives atherogenesis and plaque complication.

P164: The Role of Mast Cells in the Pathogenesis of Anxiety Disorders
Mast cells are a heterogeneous population of granulocytic cells in the immune system. Mast cell granules contain numerous mediators, including neurotransmitters, cytokines, chemokines and lipid-derived factors. In addition to their well-known role in immune inflammation, the presence of mast cells in the meninges and perivascular space in the central nervous system points to their role in brain...
متن کاملInvestigating the Presence of Mast Cells in Odontogenic keratocyst and Radicular cyst
Background and purpose: Inflammatory cells including mast cells, with the production of inflammatory mediators such as heparin and histamine participate in the process of inflammation and jaw resorption. Considering the increasing growth of cysts and the role of mast cells in the process of bone resorption, the role of mast cells might be considered in pathogenesis and growth of cysts. The aim ...

Objective(s): Reactive oxygen species (ROS)-produced oxidative disorders were involved at the pathophysiology of many inflammatory processes via the generation of pro-inflammatory cytokines and antioxidant defense system suppression. Although herbal antioxidants as mono-therapy relief many inflammatory diseases including, autoimmunity rheumatoid arthritis, but as combination therapy with other ...
متن کاملDie Rolle der Mastzellen bei der Atherosklerose
Rupture of an atherosclerotic plaque is the major underlying cause of adverse cardiovascular events such as myocardial infarction or stroke. Therapeutic interventions should therefore be directed towards inhibiting growth of atherosclerotic lesions as well as towards prevention of lesion destabilization. Interestingly, the presence of mast cells has been demonstrated in both murine and human pl...
متن کاملOxidized Low-Density Lipoprotein Contributes to Atherogenesis via Co-activation of Macrophages and Mast Cells
Oxidized low-density lipoprotein (OxLDL) is a risk factor for atherosclerosis, due to its role in endothelial dysfunction and foam cell formation. Tissue-resident cells such as macrophages and mast cells release inflammatory mediators upon activation that in turn cause endothelial activation and monocyte adhesion. Two of these mediators are tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α, produced by macrophages...
