Strawman LIGO II Design: A Quantum Limited Interferometer for LIGO
نویسندگان
چکیده
of design The basic optical configuration is a power-recycled and signal-recycled Michelson interferometer with Fabry-Perot ‘transducers’ in the arms. This requires the addition of a signal recycling mirror to the suspended optics at the output ‘dark’ port, and changes in the RF modulation and control systems. The control system relies on a hierarchy of actuators in the seismic and suspension systems to minimize required control authority on the test masses.

Simulation tools for future interferometers
For the design and commissioning of the LIGO interferometer, simulation tools have been used explicitly and implicitly. The requirement of the advanced LIGO interferometer is much more demanding than the first generation interferometer. Development of revised simulation tools for future interferometers are underway in the LIGO Laboratory. The outline of those simulation tools and applications a...
متن کاملImpact of backscattered light in a squeezing-enhanced interferometric gravitational-wave detector
Squeezed states of light have been recently used to improve the sensitivity of laser interferometric gravitational-wave detectors beyond the quantum limit. To completely establish quantum engineering as a realistic option for the next generation of detectors, it is crucial to study and quantify the noise coupling mechanisms which injection of squeezed states could potentially introduce. We pres...
متن کاملControl System Design for the Ligo Pre-stabilized Laser
To meet the strain sensitivity requirements [1], [2] of the Laser Interferometer Gravitational Wave Observatory (LIGO), the laser frequency and amplitude noise must initially be reduced by a factor of 1000 in the pre-stabilized portion of the interferometer [3]. A control system was implemented to provide laser noise suppression, data acquisition interfaces, diagnostics, and operator control in...

متن کاملDetector Description and Performance for the First Coincidence Observations between LIGO and GEO The LIGO Scientific Collaboration
For 17 days in August and September 2002, the LIGO and GEO interferometer gravitational wave detectors were operated in coincidence to produce their first data for scientific analysis. Although the detectors were still far from their design
