Professor Martin Pall's publication on MCS

چکیده
A major paper on multiple chemical sensitivity by Professor Martin L. Pall was published October 23, 2009 as chapter XX in a prestigious reference work for professional toxicologists, “General and Applied Toxicology, 3rd Edition” (John Wiley & Sons). Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) is also known as chemical sensitivity, chemical intolerance and toxicant-induced loss of tolerance, with this last name emphasizing the role of chemicals in initiating cases of this disease. Pall’s paper, entitled Multiple Chemical Sensitivity: Toxicological Questions and Mechanisms , establishes five important facts about MCS:

NMDA sensitization and stimulation by peroxynitrite, nitric oxide, and organic solvents as the mechanism of chemical sensitivity in multiple chemical sensitivity.
Multiple chemical sensitivity (MCS) is a condition where previous exposure to hydrophobic organic solvents or pesticides appears to render people hypersensitive to a wide range of chemicals, including organic solvents. The hypersensitivity is often exquisite, with MCS individuals showing sensitivity that appears to be at least two orders of magnitude greater than that of normal individuals. Thi...
متن کاملAlignment of Strategy with Structure Using Management Control Systems
Considerable experimentation in organizational form has focused executive attention on the design and use of management control systems (MCS) to align environmental context and corporate strategy with a variety of organizational structures. The paper explores how two multibusiness health care firms with a similar corporate strategy–but with different structures, centralized versus decentralized...
متن کاملComparing Therapeutic Outcomes of Dynamic Hip Screw and Multiple Cannulated Screws as Internal Fixation in Femoral Neck Fractures
Background and purpose: Femoral neck fracture is associated with a high rate of side effects, especially in young people, who are usually affected by severe energy shocks. Results after injury depend on some factors, including displacement, fragility, bleeding rate, proper placement, and stable and strong fixation. The aim of this study was to compare dynamic hip screw (DHS) or multiple cannula...
متن کاملEfficient Sleeping Beauty DNA Transposition From DNA Minicircles
DNA transposon-based vectors have emerged as new potential delivery tools in therapeutic gene transfer. Such vectors are now showing promise in hematopoietic stem cells and primary human T cells, and clinical trials with transposon-engineered cells are on the way. However, the use of plasmid DNA as a carrier of the vector raises safety concerns due to the undesirable administration of bacterial...
متن کاملPublication Ethics: Many Facets, Collaboration Required
Sir, the recent publication on “Publication Ethics” is very interesting (1). The article by Fazly Bazzaz and Sadeghi demonstrated many interesting cases of misconducts. Indeed, the misconducts can be seen in many ways. As mentioned in the present publication, both author and editor can perform publication misconducts. Nevertheless, the problem has many more facets. Sometimes,...
