Atomic Alchemy

چکیده
We consider the transitions between electromagnetic bound states, such as the exclusive weak decay of a muonic atom into an electronic atom: (µ − Z) → (e − Z)¯ ν e ν µ. We show that relativistic effects in the atomic wave-functions are crucial for determining the rate. In the case of heavy atoms, the exclusive channel branching ratios exceed 10 −6 , possibly bringing the study of these rare decays within experimental reach. Such processes thus provide a detailed laboratory for studying the high momentum tail of wavefunctions in atomic physics; in addition, they provide a simple toy model for investigating analogous exclusive heavy hadronic decays in quantum chromodynamics such as B → πeν.

متن کاملManifestation of Alchemy Symbols in Corresponding with Islamic Mysticism and Art
Alchemy is an ancient science that has been associated with various sciences, religions and mysticism. In Islam, many mystical prayers and practices have originated from the transcendental sciences, and mysticism has had a great impact on the spread of alchemy among Muslims. The nature of alchemy is in harmony with Islamic mysticism; because they branch out from sacred sources. If the spiritual...

متن کاملA brief history of Indian alchemy covering pre-Vedic to Vedic and Ayurvedic period (circa 400 B.C.-800 A.D.).
History of Indian alchemy can be traced to pre-Vedic period. The archaeological excavations at Mohenjodaro and Harappa in the Indus valley have brought to light that, the people in ancient India were possessing chemical knowledge as early as in the pre-historic period. In Vedic period single herbs were prescribed. Minerals and animal substances were also prescribed but no compound preparations ...

One of the most fascinating and thought-provoking periods in the history of chemistry is the coexistence in Western Europe of the ancient alchemy (having most likely arisen from Hellenistic and Arabic influences) and the rational, scientific chemistry we know today. By its own nature, this is a rather indeterminate period ranging from the Renaissance (around the 15 and 16 centuries) to early in...
