چکیده

In this paper we present the time resolution measurements of the LutetiumYttrium Oxyorthosilicate (LYSO) calorimeter prototype for the Mu2e experiment. The measurements have been performed using the e− beam of the Beam Test Facility (BTF) in Frascati, Italy in the energy range from 100 to 400 MeV. The calorimeter prototype consisted of twenty five 30x30x130 mm, LYSO crystals read out by 10x10 mm Hamamatsu Avalanche Photodiodes (APDs). The energy dependence of the measured time resolution can be parametrized as σt(E) = a/ √ E/GeV⊕b, with the stochastic and constant terms a = (51±1) ps and b = (10 ± 4) ps, respectively. This corresponds to the time resolution of (162± 4) ps at 100 MeV.

Characterization of three LYSO crystal batches

We report on three LYSO crystal batches characterized at the Caltech crystal laboratory for future HEP experiments: Twenty-five 20 cm long crystals for the SuperB experiment; twelve 13 cm long crystals for the Mu2e experiment and 623 14×14×1.5 mm plates with five holes for a LYSO/W Shashlik matrix for a beam test at Fermilab. Optical and scintillation properties measured are longitudinal Transm...

The tracker and calorimeter systems of the Mu2e experiment

The Mu2e experiment at Fermilab is a sensitive search for lepton flavor violation via muon-to-electron conversion in the field of an aluminum nucleus. The requirements for the tracking and calorimeter systems of the experiment, as well as the design of systems that fulfill these requirements, are briefly described.

High-resolution electro-magnetic calorimetry with noble liquids

Electromagnetic calorimeters with noble liquids and their limits in resolution are discussed. The origins of “initial” current measurement in calorimetry are retraced and the performance and first results of the NA48 calorimeter (quasi-homogeneous calorimeter with longitudinal electrode structure) are presented. Results of the prototype calorimeters of KEDR (quasi-homogeneous calorimeter with t...

An Improved Shashlyk Calorimeter

Shashlyk electromagnetic calorimeter modules with an energy resolution of about 3%/ √ E (GeV) for 50−1000 MeV photons has been developed, and a prototype tested. Details of these improved modules, including mechanical construction, selection of wave shifting fibers and photo-detectors, and development of a new scintillator with improved optical and mechanical properties are described. How the m...
