چکیده

We present a model of similarity-based retrieval which attempts to capture three psychological phenomena: (1) people are extremely good at judging similarity and analogy when given items to compare. (2) Super cial remindings are much more frequent than structural remindings. (3) People sometimes experience and use purely structural analogical remindings. Our model, called MAC/FAC (for \many are called but few are chosen") consists of two stages. The rst stage (MAC) uses a computationally cheap, non-structural matcher to lter candidates from a pool of memory items. That is, we redundantly encode structured representations as content vectors, whose dot product yields an estimate of how well the corresponding structural representations will match. The second stage (FAC) uses SME to compute a true structural match between the probe and output from the rst stage. MAC/FAC has been fully implemented, and we show that it is capable of modeling patterns of access found in psychological data.

AModel of Similarity-based Retrieval

We present a model of similarity-based retrieval that attempts to capture three seemingly contradictory psychological phenomena: (0) structural commonalities are weighed more heavily thon surface commonalities in similarity judgments for items In working memory; (b) in retrieval. superficial similarity is more impor. tont thon structural similarity; and yet (c) purely structural (anologicol) re...

MAC/FAC Retrieval of Semantic Workflows

This paper presents a novel two-step retrieval method for semantic workflow cases, inspired by the MAC/FAC (many are called, but few are chosen) model proposed by Gentner and Forbus. MAC/FAC retrieval is motivated by the computational complexity of graph matching, which is usually involved in the similarity-based retrieval of workflows. An additional computationally efficient retrieval step (MA...

A Cluster-Based Approach to Improve Similarity-Based Retrieval for Process-Oriented Case-Based Reasoning

In case-based reasoning, improving the performance of the retrieval phase is still an important research issue for complex case representations and computationally expensive similarity measures. This holds particularly for the of retrieval workflows, which is a recent topic in process-oriented case-based reasoning. While most index-based retrieval methods are restricted to attribute-value repre...
