IKONOS spatial resolution and image interpretability characterization
نویسندگان
چکیده
Five individual projects characterized the spatial performance of the IKONOS commercial imaging sensor. The result was determination of the spatial image quality of IKONOS data products in terms of the National Imagery Interpretability Rating Scale (NIIRS), the system Modulation Transfer Function (MTF), the system stability over its first year of operation, the characteristics of the Space Imaging MTF Compensation (MTFC) procedure, and the application-specific capabilities of IKONOS imagery. Both panchromatic and multispectral imagery were evaluated. Major conclusions of this work are that the system was stable in imaging performance during the first year of operation, that its MTF meets the specification for the NASA Scientific Data Purchase program, that the initial MTFC processing appears to be transposed in the in-track and the cross-track directions, that the MTFC results in a noise amplification of 2 to 4 in addition to sharpening the imagery, and that IKONOS panchromatic imagery achieves an average NIIRS rating of 4.5. Using an Imperialistic Competitive Algorithm in Global Polynomials Optimization (Case Study: 2D Geometric Correction of IKONOS and SPOT Imagery)
The number of high resolution space imageries in photogrammetry and remote sensing society is growing fast. Although these images provide rich data, the lack of sensor calibration information and ephemeris data does not allow the users to apply precise physical models to establish the functional relationship between image space and object space. As an alternative solution, some generalized mode...
متن کاملTopographic Correction for Differential Illumination Effects on Ikonos Satellite Imagery
The problem of differential terrain illumination on satellite imagery has been investigated for at least 20 years and has not been solved satisfactorily. Most past research has been conducted on Landsat imagery where the look angle is nadir. There is no research on topographic correction of IKONOS imagery, which has a higher spatial resolution. The high spatial resolution of IKONOS imagery requ...
متن کاملImage fusion of Ikonos pan and multispectral images for classification of the urban environment
The paper compares different data fusion techniques in order to choose an appropriate technique for accurate urban mapping. Availability of high spatial resolution Ikonos and Quickbird imagery has made accurate mapping of urban areas more feasible. Though Ikonos multispectral images have a good spatial resolution of 4 m, it is often desirable to have an increased spatial resolution for a more a...
متن کاملUrban Land Cover Mapping Using Object/pixel-based Data Fusion and Ikonos Images
The use of high resolution IKONOS imagery should make it possible to extract urban features like buildings and roads more easily than conventional satellite image data. This work examines the synergetic ability of using spectral information from multispectral data in combination with spatial information from panchromatic data in urban land cover mapping using IKONOS Imagery. In this work we tri...
