Capacity and Reliability Function per Unit Cost for Wssus Fading Channels

چکیده
This paper summaries our recent work on the application of the concepts of capacity per unit cost and reliability function per unit cost to models of fading channels. The cost is taken to be the energy, or a certain fourth moment functional that is sensitive to the bursti-ness of the signals, and is related to the ambiguity function of the input signal. The channel is assumed to be a Wide-Sense Stationary and Uncorrelated Scattering (WSSUS) channel.

Broadband Fading Channels: Signal Burstiness and Capacity by Vijay Gautam Subramanian
The goal of this thesis is to understand how to achieve capacity for wireless fading channels with emphasis on the role of the burstiness in both time and frequency of the transmitted signals. Typical signal design constraints for a communication system are concerned primarily with regulating the transmitted power. This allows for signals of di ering burstiness, viz., ones that uniformly spread...
متن کاملCapacity and Reliability Function per Fourth Moment Cost for WSSUS Fading Channels
This paper addresses the capacity of wide sense stationary uncorrelated scattering (WSSUS) fading channels. Associated with a given input signal we define a quantity called the “fourthegy” of the signal, relative to a given WUSSUS channel. The name is inspired by the fact that the measure is fourth order in the input signal amplitude. The fourthegy depends on the signal through its ambiguity fu...
متن کاملBroad-band fading channels: Signal burstiness and capacity
Médard and Gallager recently showed that very large bandwidths on certain fading channels cannot be effectively used by direct sequence or related spread-spectrum systems. This paper complements the work of Médard and Gallager. First, it is shown that a key information-theoretic inequality of Médard and Gallager can be directly derived using the theory of capacity per unit cost, for a certain f...
متن کاملInformation Theory of Underspread WSSUS Channels
In this chapter, we are interested in the ultimate limit on the rate of reliable communication over Rayleigh-fading channels that satisfy the wide-sense stationary (WSS) and uncorrelated scattering (US) assumptions and are underspread [Bel63, Ken69]. Therefore, the natural setting is an information-theoretic one, and the performance metric is channel capacity [CT91, Gal68]. The family of Raylei...
متن کاملCharacterization of non-WSSUS fading dispersive channels
We present several novel tools for the statistical characterization of fading dispersive channels that do not satisfy the usual WSSUS assumption. A local scattering function, describing the timeand frequency-dependentaverage scatterer power, is introduced. Furthermore, a novel channel correlation function is presented that quantifies the scatterer correlation. Based on the channel correlation f...
