Is There a Need for Protein Ingestion During Exercise?
نویسنده
چکیده
Dietary protein ingestion following exercise increases muscle protein synthesis rates, stimulates net muscle protein accretion, and facilitates the skeletal muscle adaptive response to prolonged exercise training. Furthermore, recent studies show that protein ingestion before and during exercise also increases muscle protein synthesis rates during resistance- and endurance-type exercise. Therefore, protein ingestion before and during prolonged exercise may represent an effective dietary strategy to enhance the skeletal muscle adaptive response to each exercise session by extending the window of opportunity during which the muscle protein synthetic response is facilitated. Protein ingestion during exercise has also been suggested to improve performance capacity acutely. However, recent studies investigating the impact of protein ingestion during exercise on time trial performance, as opposed to time to exhaustion, do not report ergogenic benefits of protein ingestion. Therefore, it is concluded that protein ingestion with carbohydrate during exercise does not further improve exercise performance when compared with the ingestion of ample amounts of carbohydrate only.

Pre-Sleep Protein Ingestion to Improve the Skeletal Muscle Adaptive Response to Exercise Training
Protein ingestion following resistance-type exercise stimulates muscle protein synthesis rates, and enhances the skeletal muscle adaptive response to prolonged resistance-type exercise training. As the adaptive response to a single bout of resistance exercise extends well beyond the first couple of hours of post-exercise recovery, recent studies have begun to investigate the impact of the timin...
متن کاملBranched-chain Amino Acid Supplementation to Support Muscle Anabolism following Exercise
KEY POINTS • Branched-chain amino acids (BCAA) are essential amino acids (EAA) that play several important roles in muscle metabolism. • The BCAA – especially leucine – are critical for stimulation of molecular signaling that leads to muscle protein synthesis and muscle protein breakdown. However, there is no research that has assessed the response of muscle protein synthesis to BCAA (or leucin...
متن کاملExogenous Ketone Supplement Ingestion And Submaximal Exercise Response in Trained, Male Cyclists: A Randomised, Double-blind Study
Background. The acute ingestion of ketone body supplements can improve exercise responses such as oxygen consumption and blood lactate. Additionally, ketone body supplements show increases in circulating βhb concentration, matching those of someone in a state of nutritional ketosis. Studies testing ketone body supplements have reported different results in exercise response and varying gastroin...

Objective(s):This study examined whether conjugated linoleic acid (CLA) supplementation affects insulin sensitivity and peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ) and glucose transporter type 4 (GLUT-4) protein expressions in the skeletal muscles of rats during endurance exercise. Materials and Methods:Sprague-Dawley male rats were randomly divided into HS (high-fat diet (HFD) s...

EXERCISE TRAINING allows one to perform the same absolute exercise bout with less of a challenge to homeostasis. The metabolic adaptations include increases in the activity of tricarboxylic acid (TCA) cycle enzymes such as citrate synthase and the -oxidation enzyme -hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase ( -HAD) as well as increases in glycogen content within the exercise-trained muscles. The same absol...
