Glutamate levels in the anterior cingulate cortex correlate with self-reported impulsivity in patients with borderline personality disorder and healthy controls

چکیده
Introduction: Stress associated impulsivity belongs to the key features of borderline personality disorder (BPD) and can be regarded as a form of executive dysfunction. The anterior part of the cingulate cortex has been characterized as “executive” in function, whereas the posterior region is characterized as “evaluative” [1]. Therefore, the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) was chosen as the region of interest for single voxel proton magnetic resonance spectroscopy (H MRS) to investigate whether its metabolism may modulate impulsivity.

MRS study at 3.0 Tesla of the anterior cingulate cortex in patients with borderline personality disorder and healthy controls
Introduction: The anterior cingulate cortex (ACC) has been implicated in the pathophysiology of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Several studies have reported anatomical and functional abnormalities in this region in BPD patients [1]. Only one study, however, has so far evaluated the ACC region with H MRS in BPD patients [2]. In our study we aimed to determine the absolute concentrations ...

ackground: Structural abnormalities in prefrontal and cingulate gyrus regions—important in affective processing, impulse control nd cognition may contribute to the psychopathology of borderline personality disorder (BPD). Previous MRI studies examining olume have reported that compared with healthy controls, BPD patients have decreases in right anterior cingulate, no differences in orsolateral ...
متن کاملThe Effect of Interpersonal and Social Cycle Therapy on Impulsivity, Distress Tolerance, and Emotional Regulation Difficulties in Patients with Borderline Personality Disorder and Bipolar Disorder: a Case-Control Study: Assessment of Two Patients
Introduction: Patients with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder have difficulty managing emotions that lead to distress and impulsivity. The aim of this study was to determine the effect of interpersonal and social cycle therapy on impulsivity, distress tolerance and emotional regulation difficulties in patients with borderline personality disorder and bipolar disorder. Methods...
متن کاملOutcome Uncertainty and Brain Activity Aberrance in the Insula and Anterior Cingulate Cortex Are Associated with Dysfunctional Impulsivity in Borderline Personality Disorder
Uncertainty is recognized as an important component in distress, which may elicit impulsive behavior in patients with borderline personality disorder (BPD). These patients are known to be both impulsive and distress intolerant. The present study explored the connection between outcome uncertainty and impulsivity in BPD. The prediction was that cue primes, which provide incomplete information of...
متن کاملReduced interhemispheric structural connectivity between anterior cingulate cortices in borderline personality disorder.
Functional and structural alterations of the anterior cingulate cortex (ACC), a key region for emotional and cognitive processing, are associated with borderline personality disorder (BPD). However, the interhemispheric structural connectivity between the left and right ACC and between other prefrontal regions in this condition is unknown. We acquired diffusion-tensor imaging data from 20 healt...
