Electron - Cloud Instability in the VLHC 1
Over a few bunch passages photoemission and secondary emission could generate a quasi-stationary electron-cloud in the VLHC beam pipe, giving rise to a multi-bunch instability. In this paper, we report preliminary simulation results of the electron cloud build-up and its response to a beam displacement. The estimated instability rise time is about 3{4 s in both transverse planes.

fin the beam pipe of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC), photoemission and secondary emission give rise to a quasistationary electron cloud, which is established after a few bunch passages. The response of this electron cloud to a transversely displaced bunch resembles a short-range wakefield and can cause a fast instability [l]. In addition, beam-induced multipacting of the electrons may lead to ...
متن کاملA Study of Bit Condition for Generation Rx -Mode Waves: Interaction of Particles with Z/UH-Mode Waves
Interactions of charge particles with electromagnetic waves have important effects (linear and nonlinear) on the propagation of electromagnetic waves, and it can somewhat play a role in generation of the new mode waves. Besides, the particle energies can play an important role in causing instability in plasma. The values of parallel energy of the particles have been calculated so that they can ...

We estimate coupling impedances and collective instability thresholds for the highand low-field options for the 50 TeV on 50 TeV Really Large Hadron Colliders discussed at the 1996 Snowmass workshop. Because of the large circumference of these machines, transverse instabilities tend to be dominant. The challenges for the high-field machine are similar in kind and magnitude to those faced by the...

A proposed high-brightness synchrotron light source (PEP-X) is under design at SLAC. The 4.5GeV PEP-X storage ring has four theoretical minimum emittance (TME) cells to achieve the very low emittance and two double-bend achromat (DBA) cells to provide spaces for IDs. Damping wigglers will be installed in zero-dispersion straights to reduce the emittance below 0.1nm. In this paper, we present a ...
