چکیده

Background False positive nuclear stress myocardial perfusion imaging(MPI) findings are known to occur in obese patients and women with large breasts due to attenuation artifact. A false positive MPI study may lead to unnecessary coronary arteriography(Cath). CMR stress perfusion imaging is not affected by obesity and has better spatial resolution than MPI, without radiation exposure. The CE-MARC study showed superiority of CMR stress compared to MPI, but did not include patients > 120 kg (mean BMI = 29.2 kg/m2) due to magnet bore size limitations. This study was designed to assess the cost benefit of CMR stress as an alternative to MPI for obese patients with chest pain.

Is cardiac MRI adenosine stress perfusion imaging a more appropriate diagnostic tool for obese patients?

Background Cardiac nuclear stress perfusion imaging is subject to artifact related to obesity, breast attenuation and diaphragm overlap. These factors are responsible for “false positive” results among patients undergoing evaluation for coronary atherosclerosis, leading to potentially unnecessary invasive coronary arteriography. Cardiac MRI adenosine stress perfusion imaging is unaffected by bo...

Assessment of Organ Specific Iron Overload in Transfusion-dependent Thalassemia by Magnetic Resonance Imaging Techniques

The consequence of repeated blood transfusions in thalassemia is iron overload in different organs. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a reliable, non-invasive and accurate method for iron detection in various tissues, hence the introduction of MRI has revolutionized the management of these patients and improved the life expectancy of them. Cardiac MRI T2* has a profound effect not only on est...

حفاظت پرتویی بیماران در سی تی آنژیوگرافی قلب

Introduction: Cardiac CT (Computed Tomography) angiography applies as a pre-exam method for evaluating the patients with medical problems in their cardiac arteries. Due to the high delivered dose in this imaging method, dose reduction techniques and imaging strategies that serve the images quality with minimum patient dose are the subjects for investigation and research studies. This study will...

Cardiac MRI stress testing in the reduction of radiation exposure for patients undergoing ischemic evaluation

Background Cardiac diagnostic testing is responsible for a significant portion of non-therapeutic radiation exposure in the United States. The major source of cardiac-related radiation exposure is nuclear based myocardial perfusion imaging (MPI). Furthermore, a higher radio-isotope dose is necessary for MPI in obese patients, a growing segment of the population. As of January 1, 2014, the Ameri...

Correlation between QRS Complex Changes and Cardiac Iron Overload in Beta Thalassemia Major Patients Using T2*MRI

Background and purpose: Cardiac magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a costly method to assess cardiac iron overload. The presence of fragmented QRS (fQRS) indicates changes due to iron overload in cardiac tissue. The aim of this study was to evaluate the correlation between fQRS and cardiac iron overload using cardiac MRI in patients with β-thalassemia major (β-TM). Materials and methods: This...
