Testing capability indices for manufacturing processes with asymmetric tolerance limits and measurement errors

چکیده
Most research works related to process capability indices assume no gauge measurement errors. However, such an assumption inadequately reflects real situations even when advanced measuring instruments are employed. If we do not take into account these errors, conclusions drawn from process capability are therefore unreliable. In this paper we study the sampling distribution of capability indices C′′ p (u, v) in the presence of measurements errors, and when small subsamples data are collected from past “in-control”. We show that using a critical value without taking into account these errors, severely underestimates the α-risk which causes a less accurate testing capacity. To improve the results we suggest the use of an adjusted critical value, and we give a Maple program to get it. An example in a nougat manufactory is presented to illustrate this approach.

The Effect of Gauge Measurement Capability and Dependency Measure of Process Variables on the MCp
It has been proved that process capability indices provide very efficient measures of the capability of processes from many different perspectives. These indices have been widely used in the manufacturing industry for measuring process reproduction capability according to manufacturing specifications. In the past few years, univariate capability indices have been introduced and used to characte...
متن کاملResiduals based process capability indices for two-stage processes
The manufacturing operations often involve multistage processes where the process capability of each stage is affected by the process capability of its precedent processes. This property is known as the cascade property. The purpose of this paper is to estimate the process capability of the second stage of two-stage process while the cascade property impact is removed using residuals analysis. ...
متن کاملTesting capability indices for one-sided processes with measurement errors
In the manufacturing industry, many product characteristics are of one-sided tolerances. The process capability indices C p (u, v) and C l p(u, v) can be used to measure process performance. Most research work related to capability indices assumes no gauge measurement errors. This assumption insufficiently reflects real situations even when advanced measuring instruments are used. In this paper...
متن کاملFunctional process capability indices for nonlinear profile
A profile is a relationship between a response variable and one or more independent variables being controlled during the time. Process Capability Indices (PCI) are measured to evaluate the performance of processes in producing conforming products. Despite frequent applications of profile and a variety of available methods to monitor its different types, little researches have been carried out ...
متن کاملProcess Yield Index and Asymmetric Tolerances
Process yield has been an essential criterion used for manufacturing industries in business management. Quality managers and engineers involved in factories require capability analyses to access process yields, particularly, for processes with a very low fraction of defectives. It is noted that the accuracy of process yield is important; as it is one of major considerations for supplier selecti...
