چکیده

Both the law and culture distinguish between acts of commission that overturn the status quo and acts of omission that uphold it. This distinction is of central importance when it comes to reciprocal actions. A stylized fact of everyday life is that acts of commission elicit stronger reciprocal responses than do acts of omission. We report experiments that directly test whether this stylized fact characterizes behavior in controlled experiments. We compare reciprocal responses to both types of acts in experiments using binary, extensive form games. Across three experiments, we examine the robustness of our results to different ways in which the status quo can be induced in experiments. The data show a clear difference between effects of acts of commission and omission by first movers on reciprocal responses by second movers. *Corresponding author. Email: [email protected]. Previous studies suggest that people holding protected values show a bias against harmful acts as opposed to harmful omissions (omission bias). Protected values (PVs) have been seen as grounded in deontological moral rules to avoid causing harm. The present study 1) investigated the relationship between PVs and acts of commission versus omission in risky choices, using a paradigm where act and ...

Cooperative Benefit and Cost Games under Fairness Concerns

Solution concepts in cooperative games are based on either cost games or benefit games. Although cost games and benefit games are strategically equivalent, that is not the case in general for solution concepts. Motivated by this important observation, a new property called invariance property with respect to benefit/cost allocation is introduced in this paper. Since such a property can be regar...

O-31: Mifepristone Acts as Progesterone Antagonistof Non-Genomic Responses but InhibitsPhytohemagglutinin Induced Proliferationin Human T Cells

Background: Progesterone is an endogenous immunomodulator that suppresses T cell activation during pregnancy. The stimulation of membrane progesterone receptors (mPRs) would seem to be the cause of rapid non-genomic responses in human peripheral T cells, such as an elevation of intracellular calcium ([Ca2+] i) and decreased intracellular pH (pHi). Mifepristoneimmune cells compared with progeste...
