Real-Time Incision Simulation Using Discontinuous Free Form Deformation

چکیده
Surgical simulations with the aid of computers is a topic of increasingly extensive research. Real-time response and interactivity are crucial components of any such system and a major effort has been invested in finding ways to improve the performance of existing systems. In this paper, we propose the use of a new variant of Free Form Deformations that supports discontinuities (DFFD) in complex real time surgical simulations. The proposed scheme can benefit from an a priori or, alternatively, interactive low resolution, physical simulation of the incision procedure that is encoded into the DFFD. The DFFD is then applied to the geometry of the tissue at hand, a two-dimensional skin shape or a three-dimensional volumetric representation, capturing the incision’s shape as well as the behavior of the neighborhood geometry over time.

Cyber Surgery: Parameterized Mesh for Multi-modal Surgery Simulation
This paper presents a new method for modeling of virtual organs for surgery simulation. The organ models have a parameterized representation that supports real-time interactive deformation. To accomplish real-time interaction with deformable organs, instead of computing the deformation on the 3D organ models in 3D space we use a novel yet simple and fast free-form deformation on the 2D paramete...
متن کاملFinite element simulation of two-point incremental forming of free-form parts
Two-point incremental forming method is considered a modern technique for manufacturing shell parts. The presence of bottom punch during the process makes this technique far more complex than its conventional counterpart i.e. single-point incremental forming method. Thus, the numerical simulation of this method is an essential task, which leads to the reduction of trial/error costs, predicts th...

Pyroplastic deformation is a distortion of the ceramic shape during the sintering process. It occurs because the flow of the vitreous phase at high temperature and the applied stress due to the weight of the product during sintering process. The aim of this paper deals with describing a numerical-experimental method to evaluate the pyroplastic deformation, to predict the anisotropic shrinkage a...
متن کاملA simple Mass-Spring system for Character Animation
Mass-Spring systems are used widely to implement animation of deformable objects. We have developed a simple mass-spring system to animate a character based on physics. The reason we adopt a mass-spring system is simply we wanted more realism than Free Form Deformation (FFD) techniques can offer, as modeling physical processes. Also, this technique is preferred over Finite Element Methods (FEM)...
متن کاملRegistration Using Sparse Free-Form Deformations
Non-rigid image registration using free-form deformations (FFD) is a widely used technique in medical image registration. The balance between robustness and accuracy is controlled by the control point grid spacing and the amount of regularization. In this paper, we revisit the classic FFD registration approach and propose a sparse representation for FFDs using the principles of compressed sensi...
