Movement Time Prediction in Human-Computer Interfaces
نویسنده
چکیده
The prediction of movement time in human-computer interfaces as undertaken using Fitts' law is reviewed. Techniques for model building are summarized and three refinements to improve the theoretical and empirical accuracy of the law are presented. Refinements include (1) the Shannon formulation for the index of task difficulty, (2) new interpretations of "target width" for twoand three-dimensional tasks, and (3) a technique for normalizing error rates across experimental factors . Finally, a detailed application example is developed showing the potential of Fitts' law to predict and compare the performance of user interfaces before designs are finalized.

With the rapid emergence of 3D applications and virtual environments in computer systems; the need for a new type of interaction device arises. This is because the traditional devices such as mouse, keyboard, and joystick become inefficient and cumbersome within these virtual environments. In other words, evolution of user interfaces shapes the change in the Human-Computer Interaction (HCI). In...

A motion trajectory prediction (MTP) based brain-computer interface (BCI) aims to reconstruct the three-dimensional (3D) trajectory of upper limb movement using electroencephalography (EEG). The most common MTP BCI employs a time-series of band-pass filtered EEG potential (referred to here as the potential time-series (PTS) model) for reconstructing the trajectory of a 3D limb movement using mu...

Introduction: Motion trajectory prediction (MTP) employs a time-series of band-pass filtered EEG potentials for reconstructing the three dimensional (3D) trajectory of limb movements with a multiple linear regression (mLR) block. While traditional multiclass classification methods use power values of mu (8-12Hz) and beta (12-30Hz) bands for limb movement based classification, recent MTP brain-c...

Our work addresses one of the core issues related to Human Computer Interaction (HCI) systems that use eye gaze as an input. This issue is the sensor, transmission and other delays that exist in any eye tracker-based system, reducing its performance. A delay effect can be compensated by an accurate prediction of the eye movement trajectories. This paper introduces a mathematical model of the hu...
