چکیده

Introduction/Background The presence of enhancing soft tissue in a renal lesion on cross-sectional imaging is considered diagnostic of a renal tumor. However, an extensively necrotic or cystic renal tumor may demonstrate little contrast enhancement, and its imaging appearance may overlap with that of complex benign renal cysts on conventional MR images. It has been shown that MR diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) may be useful for characterization of renal lesions. However, to our knowledge, data on DWI of focal renal lesions are sparse in the literature and no study has been performed to compare the apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) values of nonenhancing tumor tissue with those of cysts in the kidney.

Correlation of diffusion-weighted MR imaging with cellularity of renal tumours.

BACKGROUND Diffusion is a physical process based on the random movement of water molecules known as Brownian movement. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) is a magnetic resonance (MR) technique that provides information about the biophysical properties of tissues such cell organization and density, microstructure and microcirculation. MATERIALS AND METHODS Twenty healthy volunteers and 18 patien...

Assessment and characterisation of common renal masses with CT and MRI

OBJECTIVE: Owing to the widespread use of abdominal imaging studies the detection rate of solid renal masses has increased, and an accurate characterisation of imaging features of renal masses has become more essential for case management. METHOD AND RESULTS: MR imaging (MRI) and computed tomography (CT) are frequently used modalities for detection and differentiation of renal masses. This art...

I-41: Imaging Strategy for Diagnosis of Adnexal Masses Including US,CT Scan and MRI

Adnexal masses are spectrum of diseases from benign non neoplastic and neoplastic masses to malignant neoplasms. Endovaginal ultrasonography (US) is the fisrt and invaluable modality for assessment of adnexal masses because it is available and has a high negative predictive value. Important morphologic features are solid (vascularized) tissue, vascular and thick septations, and papillary projec...

Magnetic resonance (MR) imaging is useful in the characterization of renal masses. The MR imaging manifestations and pathologic diagnoses of 82 renal masses were reviewed and correlated. The MR imaging appearance of clear cell type renal cell carcinoma varies depending on the presence of cystic components, hemorrhage, and necrosis. Papillary renal cell carcinomas appear as well-encapsulated mas...

Small solid renal masses: characterization by diffusion-weighted MRI at 3 T.

AIM To describe the appearance of small solid renal lesions (≤3 cm) on diffusion-weighted magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and to determine whether ADC measurements may help to differentiate benign from malignant small solid renal masses. METHODS AND MATERIALS Thirty-five patients with 47 small renal masses (23 malignant, 24 benign) who underwent 3 T MRI of the kidney using diffusion-weighted...
