چکیده

In this work, we present a novel and effective framework to facilitate object detection with the instance-level segmentation information that is only supervised by bounding box annotation. Starting from the joint object detection and instance segmentation network, we propose to recursively estimate the pseudo ground-truth object masks from the instance-level object segmentation network training, and then enhance the detection network with top-down segmentation feedbacks. The pseudo ground truth mask and network parameters are optimized alternatively to mutually benefit for each other. To obtain the promising pseudo masks in each iteration, we embed a graphical inference that incorporates the low-level image appearance consistency and the bounding box annotations to refine the segmentation masks predicted by the segmentation network. Our approach progressively improves the object detection performance by incorporating the detailed pixel-wise information learned from the weakly-supervised segmentation network. Extensive evaluation on the detection task in PASCAL VOC 2007 and 2012 [12] verifies that the proposed approach is effective.

Analysis of Depth Perception with Virtual Mask in Stereoscopic AR

A practical application of Augmented Reality (AR) is see-through vision, a technique that enables a user to observe an inner object located behind a real object by superimposing the virtually visualized inner object onto the real object surface (for example, pipes and cables behind a wall or under a floor). A challenge in such applications is to provide proper depth perception when an inner vir...

Contours Extraction Using Line Detection and Zernike Moment

Most of the contour detection methods suffers from some drawbacks such as noise, occlusion of objects, shifting, scaling and rotation of objects in image which they suppress the recognition accuracy. To solve the problem, this paper utilizes Zernike Moment (ZM) and Pseudo Zernike Moment (PZM) to extract object contour features in all situations such as rotation, scaling and shifting of object i...

Resolving Occlusion in Augmented Reality : a Contour Based Approach without 3D Reconstruction

We present a new approach for resolving occlusions in augmented reality. The main interest is that it does not require 3D reconstruction of the considered scene. Our idea is to use a contour based approach and to label each contour point as being “behind” or “in front of”, depending on whether it is in front of or behind the virtual object. This labeling step only requires that the contours can...

Model-Based Object Segmentation in Video Sequence

This paper presents an object contour detection using the object shape model. First, we detect the change of background luminance ratio outside the bounding box of object. Second, the temporal segmentation is obtained by mesh based motion activity detection. A new combined mask is composed of temporal segmentation result and shape model by OR operation. Finally, for modification of the mask, we...

"Mask-bot": A life-size robot head using talking head animation for human-robot communication

In this paper, we introduce our life-size talking head robotic system, “Mask-bot”, developed as a platform to support and accelerate human-robot communication research. The “Mask-bot” hardware consists of a semi-transparent plain mask, a portable LED projector with a fish-eye conversion lens mounted behind the mask, a pan-tilt unit and a mounting base. The hardware is driven by a software anima...
