A rare case of segmental arterial mediolysis

چکیده
Segmental arterial mediolysis (SAM) is a presumably vasospastic disorder [1]. SAM commonly involves large to medium sized intraabdominal, cerebral and rarely coronary arteries. In 1943, Kernohan and Woltman described arteries with features of SAM in the posterior circulation of the brain for the first time [2]. The first case of SAM was presented in 1976 by Slavin and Gonzalez [3]. At first they termed it segmental mediolytic arteritis, but due to lack of inflammatory changes, renamed it segmental arterial mediolysis [3]. We describe an extremely rare case of a combined hemorrhage from an intra-abdominal and intracranial aneurysms.

CONTEXT Hemosuccus pancreaticus, a rare cause of intermittent upper gastrointestinal bleeding, is usually caused by the rupture of an aneurysm associated with chronic pancreatitis. Segmental arterial mediolysis is a rare non-arteriosclerotic, non-inflammatory vascular disease characterized by vacuolization and lysis of the arterial smooth muscle cells. Segmental arterial mediolysis often causes...
متن کاملSegmental arterial mediolysis accompanied by renal infarction and pancreatic enlargement: a case report
INTRODUCTION Due to recent advances in imaging diagnostic techniques, there are an increasing number of case reports of segmental arterial mediolysis. However, there are only a limited number of reports on segmental arterial mediolysis-related abnormalities of abdominal organs other than the intestine. This report describes a case of segmental arterial mediolysis accompanied by abnormalities of...

BACKGROUND Segmental arterial mediolysis (SAM) is a rare non inflammatory vascular disease that can present with massive haemorrhage, which may lead to death without prompt surgical intervention. The source of bleeding was found to be rupt...

متن کاملSegmental arterial mediolysis, a vasculitis mimic: Case report and review of literature
Segmental Arterial Mediolysis (SAM) is a non-inflammatory vascular condition that most commonly affects the medium sized vessels in the abdomen including splanchanic and renal arteries. Its angiographic appearance closely mimics other conditions affecting these blood vessels, such as polyarteritis nodosa (PAN), infections such as syphilis and fibromuscular dysplasia. SAM is under-recognized, ho...
