A Test Suite for Magnetohydrodynamical Simulations
نویسندگان
چکیده
We have drawn together in this paper a collection of magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) problems that will provide researchers who have interests in modeling MHD phenomena with a battery of tests (a \test suite") for calibrating their numerical algorithms. Use of these tests will provide a common reference for comparison of di erent numerical MHD algorithms. The test suite includes both one and two dimensional problems. Taken together, these problems test the abilities of a numerical method to propagate accurately all of the MHD wave families in moving and stationary media, to capture MHD shocks and contact discontinuities, and to model accurately Lorentz force terms in multiple dimensions. An example solution of each test problem is presented. We demonstrate diagnostic convergence-testing procedures that provide a quantitative evaluation of MHD algorithms. The Interplay of Turbulence & Magnetic Fields in Star-Forming Regions: Simulations and Observations
We analyze a suite of thin sheet magnetohydrodynamical simulations based on the formulation of Basu, Ciolek, Dapp & Wurster. These simulations allow us to examine the observational consequences to a star-forming region of varying the input level of turbulence (between thermal and a Mach number of 4) and the initial magnetic field strength corresponding to a range of mass to flux ratios between ...
متن کاملUsing the Particle Swarm Optimization Algorithm to Generate the Minimum Test Suite in Covering Array with Uniform Strength
Up to now, several useful algorithms have been proposed to generate covering array, which is one of the branches of combinatorial testing. The main challenge in generating such arrays is generation of the arrays with a minimum number of test cases (for efficiency) at a proper time (for performance), for large systems. Covering array generation strategies are often divided into two general categ...
متن کاملCharacterizing the structure of interstellar turbulence
Modeling the structure of molecular clouds depends upon good methods to statistically compare simulations with observations in order to constrain the models. Here we characterize a suite of hydrodynamical and magnetohydrodynamical (MHD) simulations of supersonic turbulence using an averaged wavelet transform, the ∆-variance, that has been successfully used to characterize observations. We find ...
متن کاملThree Dimensional Magnetohydrodynamical Simulations of Core Collapse Supernova
We show three-dimensional magnetohydrodynamical simulations of core collapse supernova in which the progenitor has magnetic fields inclined to the rotation axis. The simulations employed a simple empirical equation of state in which the pressure of degenerate gas is approximated by piecewise polytropes for simplicity. Neither energy loss due to neutrino is taken into account for simplicity. The...
متن کاملParticle Acceleration in Pulsar Wind Nebulae
Plerionic supernova remnants exhibit radio emission with remarkably flat spectral indices ranging from α = 0.0 to α = −0.3. The origin of very hard particle energy distributions still awaits an explanation, since shock waves generate particle distributions with synchrotron spectra characterized by α ≤ −0.5. Acceleration of high energy leptons in magnetohydrodynamic turbulence instead may be res...
