چکیده

Contact time (or link duration) is a fundamental factor that affects performance in Mobile Ad Hoc Networks. Previous research on theoretical analysis of contact time distribution for random walk models (RW) assume that the contact events can be modeled as either consecutive random walks or direct traversals, which are two extreme cases of random walk, thus with two different conclusions. In this paper we conduct a comprehensive research on this topic in the hope of bridging the gap between the two extremes. The conclusions from the two extreme cases will result in a power-law or exponential tail in the contact time distribution, respectively. However, we show that the actual distribution will vary between the two extremes: a power-law-sub-exponential dichotomy, whose transition point depends on the average flight duration. Through simulation results we show that such conclusion also applies to random waypoint. 2010 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Power law and exponential decay of inter contact times between mobile devices1

We examine the fundamental properties that determine the basic performance metrics for opportunistic communications. We first consider the distribution of inter-contact times between mobile devices. Using a diverse set of measured mobility traces, we find as an invariant property that there is a characteristic time, order of half a day, beyond which the distribution decays exponentially. Up to ...

Visualization of Spatial Distribution of Random Waypoint Mobility Models

In multi-hop wireless network simulation, mobility model is one of the crucial factors affecting the performance of networks. This paper aims to analyze the spatial distribution of Random Waypoint mobility models with the progress of time. Additionally, we study the network performance of a random-based mobility model. The results from the evaluation show the uniform node distribution of Random...

The Random Trip Model: Stability, Stationary Regime, and Perfect Simulation12

We define “random trip", a generic mobility model for random, independent node motions, which contains as special cases: the random waypoint on convex or non convex domains, random walk on torus, billiards, city section, space graph, intercity and other models. We show that, for this model, a necessary and sufficient condition for a timestationary regime to exist is that the mean trip duration ...

Comparison of Random Waypoint & Random Walk Mobility Model under DSR, AODV & DSDV MANET Routing Protocols

Mobile Adhoc Network is a kind of wireless ad hoc network where nodes are connected wirelessly and the network is self configuring. MANET may work in a standalone manner or may be a part of another network. In this paper we have compared Random Walk Mobility Model and Random Waypoint Mobility Model over two reactive routing protocols Dynamic Source Routing (DSR) and Adhoc On-Demand Distance Vec...

Quality of Service Assessment of AOMDV for Random Waypoint and Random Walk Mobility Models

Routing Protocol performance is strongly affected by user or node mobility in Mobile Ad hoc Network. Performance of any routing protocol for Mobile Ad Hoc Network is investigated and assessed using simulator. Network Simulator 2 uses various mobility models to mimic mobility patterns. Simulating a precise real life user/node mobility pattern is difficult. The ns-2 mobility models attempt throug...
