Cross-layer topology design for network coding based wireless multicasting

چکیده
This paper considers wireless multicast networks where network coding (NC) is applied to improve network throughput. A novel joint topology and cross-layer design is proposed to maximise the network throughput subject to various quality-of-service constraints, such as: wireless multicast rate, wireless link capacity, energy supply and network lifetime. Specifically, a heuristic NC-based link-controlled routing tree algorithm is developed to reduce the number of required intermediate nodes. The proposed algorithm facilitates the optimisation of the wireless multicast rate, data flow of wireless links, energy supply and lifetime of nodes through a novel cross-layer design. The proposed joint topology and cross-layer design is evaluated and compared against other schemes from the literature. The results show that the proposed scheme can achieve up to 50% increase in the system throughput when compared to a classic approach. © 2015 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

Multi-layer Clustering Topology Design in Densely Deployed Wireless Sensor Network using Evolutionary Algorithms
Due to the resource constraint and dynamic parameters, reducing energy consumption became the most important issues of wireless sensor networks topology design. All proposed hierarchy methods cluster a WSN in different cluster layers in one step of evolutionary algorithm usage with complicated parameters which may lead to reducing efficiency and performance. In fact, in WSNs topology, increasin...
متن کاملCross-layer design of adaptive modulation and coding for multicast system with random network coding
This paper deals with a cross-layer design that combines link adaptation in the physical layer with random network coding for layered video multicasting in a cellular system. The objective is to design the optimum signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) threshold for adaptive modulation and coding (AMC) that can satisfy the target frame loss rate (FLS) under a delay constraint associated with real-time mul...

متن کاملNetwork Coding for Wireless Networks
Network coding refers to a scheme where a node is allowed to generate output data by mixing (i.e., computing certain functions of) its received data. The unique characteristics of wireless medium renders network coding particularly useful. For instance, network coding can be used to achieve the minimum energy-per-bit for multicasting in a wireless ad hoc network. In addition to optimizing energ...
متن کاملQuasi Random Deployment Strategy for Reliable Communication Backbones in Wireless Sensor Networks
Topology construction and topology maintenance are significant sub-problems of topology control. Spanning tree based algorithms for topology control are basically transmission range based type construction algorithms. The construction of an effective backbone, however, is indirectly related to the placement of nodes. Also, the dependence of network reliability on the communication path undertak...
