Temporal Variables in Parkisonian Speech
نویسنده
چکیده
Temporal variables were detailed and compared in a text read by ten French subjects with mild to moderate Parkinson disease (PDS’s) and ten French healthy control subjects (CS’s). Longer total pause times were found for PDS’s, correlated to higher numbers of pauses and longer mean pause duration. The typical relationship observed between the distributional scheme of pauses and syntactic structure of the text remained largely intact for PDS’s. However, PDS’s also made strikingly long and unexpected within-phrase and within-word pauses, most often associated with a dysfluency. Pause time and pattern were found to be highly variable across PDS’s, some of whom had a fast speech rate, others a slow one. The results can be viewed as manifestations of deficient timing of motor events which appears to be a strong pathomechanism in Parkinson disease.

Phoneme Classification Using Temporal Tracking of Speech Clusters in Spectro-temporal Domain
This article presents a new feature extraction technique based on the temporal tracking of clusters in spectro-temporal features space. In the proposed method, auditory cortical outputs were clustered. The attributes of speech clusters were extracted as secondary features. However, the shape and position of speech clusters change during the time. The clusters temporally tracked and temporal tra...
متن کاملEffects of ageing on speed and temporal resolution of speech stimuli in older adults
Background: According to previous studies, most of the speech recognition disorders in older adults are the results of deficits in audibility and auditory temporal resolution. In this paper, the effect of ageing on timecompressed speech and auditory temporal resolution by word recognition in continuous and interrupted noise was studied. Methods: A time-compressed speech test (TCST) w...
متن کاملCorrelation between Auditory Spectral Resolution and Speech Perception in Children with Cochlear Implants
Background: Variability in speech performance is a major concern for children with cochlear implants (CIs). Spectral resolution is an important acoustic component in speech perception. Considerable variability and limitations of spectral resolution in children with CIs may lead to individual differences in speech performance. The aim of this study was to assess the correlation between auditory ...
متن کاملEffects of perturbation and prosody on the coordination of speech and gesture
The temporal alignment of speech and gesture is widely acknowledged as primary evidence of the integration of spoken language and gesture systems. Yet there is a disconnect between the lack of experimental research on the variables that affect the temporal relationship of speech and gesture and the overwhelming acceptance that speech and gesture are temporally coordinated. Furthermore, the mech...
متن کاملThe Impact of Contextual Variables on Internal Intensification of Apology Speech Acts in Persian: Social Distance and Severity of Offense in Focus
The current paper primarily provides an account of how apology speech acts are internally intensified in Persian. Moreover, the study checks to what extent contextual variables, namely social distance and severity of offense, may motivate the internal intensification of apology speech acts. To these ends, the study collected the required speech acts through a Discourse Completion Test (DCT) fro...
