A Cornucopia of Experiment at RHIC

چکیده
I outline experimental results on heavy ion collisions at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider for a non-technical audience. This includes: elliptic flow and nearly ideal hydrodynamics; the suppression of hard particles and the ratio RAA; and electromagnetic signals, including dileptons and direct photons. Especially puzzling is why the behavior of heavy (charm) quarks appears to be so similar to that of light quarks.

Plans for Spin Physics at Rhic
Polarized proton collisions will be studied at RHIC up to a total center of mass energy of 500 GeV, starting in 2002. An overview of the RHIC-spin program, and the critical components of the PHENIX and STAR detectors for spin experiments, is presented. The premier experiment within the RHIC-spin program is the determination of the fraction of the proton's spin carried by gluons. A detailed anal...
متن کاملParticle production at RHIC energies
This paper presents recent results from the BRAHMS experiment at RHIC; including results on particle production in rapidity space extending from y=0 to y ∼ 3 and on the transverse momentum distribution of fully identified charged particles. These results were obtained from the 5% most central Au-Au collisions recorded during RHIC Run-2 at √ sNN = 200 GeV.
متن کاملThe overview of the spin physics at RHIC-PHENIX experiment
In Spiring 2005, RHIC successfully completed its first long data collection run with polarized proton beams. PHENIX accumulated ten fold larger statistics with higher polarization than the previous spin physics run in 2003. This contribution will introduce the RHIC-PHENIX experiment and present our recent results.
متن کامل(sNN)=200GeV Au+Au collisions in the PHENIX Experiment at RHIC
The first measurement of the dielectron continuum at RHIC energies was performed by the PHENIX experiment for Au+Au collisions at √ sNN= 200 GeV. Mass spectra for different centralities are presented and compared with the expectations from hadron decays.
متن کاملJet Tomography at RHIC
The status of the use of hard probes in heavy ion collisions at RHIC is reviewed. The discovery of strong jet quenching at RHIC is a major success. However, in order to make full use of this new phenomenon for full jet emission tomography of the properties of the collision zone further development is needed, both experimentally and theoretically.
