Optimal Pricing for Competitive Service Facilities with Balking and Veering Customers

چکیده
This paper focuses on determining the optimal pricing strategy for a service providing firm with multiple facilities. The market is involved with some other competing firms providing the same service. The firm and its competitors might devise three different pricing policies as uniform mill pricing, distinct mill pricing and delivered pricing. Customers choose the facilities probabilistically based on their perceived utility to being served. After they received at a congested facility, some of them balk from entering the queue and go directly to another facility rather than coming back to their origins. As a result, the arrival rate for a facility is varying on the level of congestion in all facilities. This situation requires us to find equilibrium point of facilities’ arrival rates. For this purpose, a heuristic procedure is developed. The resulted non-linear and complex model is proposed to solve using a hybrid algorithm of Particle Swarm Intelligence and Differential Evolution, two continuous approximate optimization algorithms. An illustrative example is given to show the model’s applicability and the algorithm’s efficiency. Different scenarios in terms of sensitivity analysis are also mentioned to capture managerial insights.

Bat Algorithm for Optimal Service Parameters in an Impatient Customer N-Policy Vacation Queue
In this paper, a meta-heuristic method, the Bat Algorithm, based on the echolocation behavior of bats is used to determine the optimum service rate of a queue problem. A finite buffer M/M/1 queue with N policy, multiple working vacations and Bernoulli schedule vacation interruption is considered. Under the two customers' impatient situations, balking and reneging, the...
متن کاملUnreliable Server Mx/G/1 Queue with Loss-delay, Balking and Second Optional Service
This investigation deals with MX/G/1 queueing model with setup, bulk- arrival, loss-delay and balking. The provision of second optional service apart from essential service by an unreliable server is taken into consideration. We assume that the delay customers join the queue when server is busy whereas loss customers depart from the system. After receiving the essential service, the customers m...
متن کاملTwo-level supply chain quality improvement through a wholesale price coordination contract on pricing, quality and services
Nowadays, competitive market creates the necessity of quality improvement in different levels of supply chains (SCs). This paper contributes to the SC coordination literature and proposes a bilateral coordination contract for optimizing pricing decisions along with quality improvement decisions in different echelons of a real case of a cell phone SC. The SC comprises a manufacturer who deals wi...
متن کاملOn Two-Echelon Multi-Server Queue with Balking and Limited Intermediate Buffer
In this paper we study two echelon multi-server tandom queueing systems where customers arrive according to a poisson process with two different rates. The service rates at both echelons are independent of each other. The service times of customers is assumed to be completed in two stages. The service times at each stage are exponentially distributed. At the first stage, the customers may balk ...
متن کاملOptimal balking strategies in single-server queues with general service and vacation times
In many service systems arising in OR/MS applications, the servers may be temporarily unavailable, a fact that affects the sojourn time of a customer and his willingness to join. Several studies that explore the balking behavior of customers in Markovian models with vacations have recently appeared in the literature. In the present paper, we study the balking behavior of customers in the single...
