Modified DLM method for finite-volume simulation of particle flow

A Distributed-Lagrange-Multiplier(DLM)-based method is implemented for the simulation of particulate flow. Initially, we show that our fluid-particle solver produces results which are in good agreement with numerical studies of benchmark viscous flow problems. Subsequently, the bouncing motion of a solid sphere onto a solid plate in an ambient fluid is considered. Comparing results for the coefficient of restitution for different Stokes numbers shows very good agreement with the experimental results. Finally, the effect of the coefficient of restitution for a dry collision on the vortex dynamics associated with a colliding sphere onto a wall is discussed.
