Consequences of the multipatient use of a single-patient capillary blood sampling device (CBSD)

چکیده
Results Of 280 exposed patients, 9 had died without suspicion of blood-borne infection, 3 could not be tested, and 5 declined investigations. Among the 263 (93%) tested patients, 218 (83%) had negative results. We confirmed a known history of HCV infection in 6 patients (1 coinfected by HIV), and also identified resolved HBV infection in 37 patients, of whom 18 were already known. 2 patients were found to have a previously unknown HCV infection. According to the time elapsed from the closest previous visit of a HCV-infected potential source patient, we could rule out nosocomial transmission in one case (14 weeks) but not in the other (1 day). In the latter, however, transmission was deemed very unlikely by 2 reference centers based on the sequences of the E1 and HVR1 regions of the virus.

Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology versus Fine Needle Capillary Sampling in Cytological Diagnosis of Thyroid Lesions
Background and Objectives: Fine needle aspiration cytology (FNAC) is an established out- patient procedure used in primary diagnosis of palpable thyroid lesions. A modified technique fine needle capillary sampling (FNCS) obviates the need of suction, is less painful, patient friendly and reported to overcome the problem of inadequate and bloody specimens. The aim of our study was to compare the...
متن کاملUse of Capillary Electrophoresis for Detection of Hemoglobinopathies in Individuals Referred to Health Centers in Masjed-Soleiman
Background: Hemoglobinopathies are the commonest single gene disorder in human that affect hemoglobin production and function that occur when mutations alter the amino acid sequence of globin chains. The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the prevalence of hemoglobninopathies detected by capillary electrophoresis method in individuals referred to Masjed-Soleiman health centers by capi...
متن کاملAngioma serpiginosum successfully treated by a single session of intense pulsed light therapy
Angioma serpiginosum (AS) is a nevoid capillary malformation developed congenitally or thereafter. The AS stops growing after puberty and may remain persistent throughout life. The pulsed dye laser (PDL) and KTP are used to treat the AS usually after several sessions. We treated a patient with AS with only one session of intense pulsed light (IPL) therapy. A 40-year-old lady with Fitzpatrick sk...

Transmission of life-threatening bacterial infections can occur when health-care personnel do not adhere to Standard Precautions and instead use medication in containers labeled as single-dose or single-use for more than one patient. This report summarizes the investigation of two outbreaks of invasive Staphylococcus aureus infection confirmed in 10 patients being treated for pain in outpatient...
متن کاملEvaluation of Hemoglobin Concentration of Cord, Capillary and Venous sampling in Neonates
Abstract Background Anemia is one of the most common abnormalities in pediatric medicine. Considerable differences are seen in the peripheral blood indices of infants in developing countries. The aim of this study was to determine and compared blood hemoglobin concentration in three sites of sampling in neonate. Materials and Methods 1600 term and preterm new infant in three sites of sampli...
