Electrostatic actuators for misalignment compensation in multi-layered microsystem devices
نویسندگان
چکیده
Electrostatic actuation is a promising approach to compensate for misalignment of bonded, multi-layered microsystem devices. The present work discusses the performance of electrostatic actuators used for in-plane misalignment compensation in an atom chip comprising an optical cavity. Experimental investigation revealed that the central frame suspending the mirrors can be moved between 3-5 m in the in-plane direction for the applied DC voltage of 90 volts. Future work involves characterizing the mirror displacement for optical tuning function. Keywods: Actuators, Alignment, Micromirrors and Optical tuning

Microsystem technology opens up a new way of integration of sensors, actuators, and information processing components resulting in multifunctional, adaptive, and intelligent systems similar to those created by nature. In this paper a general idea of what is feasible with this technology will be given. After a short introduction the key technologies for the fabrication of microsystems are descri...
متن کاملNew design of electrostatic mirror actuators for application in high-precision interferometry
We describe a new geometry for electrostatic actuators to be used in sensitive laser interferometers, suited for prototype and table top experiments related to gravitational wave detection with mirrors of 100 g or less. The arrangement consists of two plates at the sides of the mirror (test mass), and therefore does not reduce its clear aperture as a conventional electrostatic drive (ESD) would...
متن کاملStability Analysis in Parametrically Excited Electrostatic Torsional Micro-actuators
This paper addresses the static and dynamic stabilities of a parametrically excited torsional micro-actuator. The system is composed of a rectangular micro-mirror symmetrically suspended between two electrodes and acted upon by a steady (dc ) while simultaneously superimposed to an (ac ) voltage. First, the stability of the system subjected to a quasi-statically applied (dc ) voltage is investi...
